some decent convos from the identity space (your weekly bluesky dump, lol) https://github.com/blueskyCommunity/aozora/pull/22/files
#
[jacky]
tbh my interest here is how I can keep using my site as _me_ and if there's a way to make native interop more of a thing

[jacky]
and with the above, there's some plumbing to bring back things like `rel=me` (in a way)
#
[jacky]
but across more platforms

I have a bit of an odd question.

[jacky] "Then one or more parties operate a one or more public shared immutable ledgers, and... [jazz hands]" 😆
#
[snarfed]
(jazz hands mine obvs)
#
[jacky]
that's definitely the blockchain group coming out there
#
[jacky]
"everyone has to be happy" or so it goes
#
capjamesg[d]
I am getting a "Couldn't look up your hostname" on an IRC bot I am running.
#
capjamesg[d]
It's my first time running it on a server, not my local machine.
#
capjamesg[d]
This happens before the MOTD is shown, etc.
#
[snarfed]
capjamesg iirc IRC does reverse DNS lookup? if your server's IP doesn't have a DNS record for it, that might be it. but I'm guessing this isn't fatal, just a warning?
#
capjamesg[d]
It's fatal unfortunately 😦
#
capjamesg[d]
The thread stalls after that.
#
capjamesg[d]
Well, actually...
#
capjamesg[d]
I then get this "SASL authentication to a NickServ account with a verified email address is required to connect from your current network"
#
[snarfed]
that's probably the fatal one
#
[snarfed]
but I'm out of my depth here, I know very little about IRC
#
capjamesg[d]
I don't know the plumbing behind it.
#
[snarfed]
try registering with NickServ and logging in? pretty common in IRC, hopefully your IRC server's docs will help

[jacky] can anyone edit that? because we did this already a few years ago in SocialWG https://www.w3.org/wiki/Socialwg/AccountDiscovery
#
[jacky]
It's a MR so you can leave a comment

[jacky] is the #devrel community being used for the group?
#
capjamesg[d]
I saw it linked on DevRel page.
#

Thanks for the info!

[jacky]
random: does anyone have post-level permissions in their IndieAuth setup? Like _only_ allowing an editor to publish like notes or likes?
#
[jacky]
it's a niche use-case I figure
#
aaronpk
i do it by channel rather than by post type. so i can authorize a client to post only to like `/reviews` and the posts will not show up on my home page
#
[jacky]
gotcha!
#
[jacky]
I think that's a proposed extension to Micropub too now
#
[jacky]
so re: https://indieauth.spec.indieweb.org/#email-like-identifier, has this been tried out in practice? I could see `micro.blog` actually doing this like `manton@micro.blog` or the like

#
aaronpk
my domain is set up to do that
#
[jacky]
hmm gotcha
#
[jacky]
probably a better diagram comparing the p2p, dweb, hashweb, etc stuff in an image to show where certain things start and end
#
[jacky]
I feel like if I had to draw one for the IndieWeb, it'd have HTTP still at networking, Data with an asterisk, Identity loosely tied to IndieAuth (but tbh, that might be another asterisk b/c it's not specific if that means authn/authz or _how_ to represent someone - we do that via hcard but it doesn't have to be, it falls back to just your URL) and then user facing being whatever your site or service is
#
[jacky]
I can see why _that_ would be hard to grasp but it's more about "what do _you want_ to see + use" versus "what do _I have to_ use" to get in the space

[KevinMarks]
I should make the Wardley maps for these
#
[KevinMarks]
The indieweb version of that is:
#
[KevinMarks]
Application : Browser
#
[KevinMarks]
Identity : URL (Domain/dns)
#
[KevinMarks]
Data : HTML (microformats)
#
[KevinMarks]
Network : Web (http)
#
[tantek]
jacky, that table/chart is open in a tab from back when they first published that bluesky PDF report thing
#
[tantek]
it's such a weird "stack" diagram in that the labels / positions don't even necessarily make sense as a way to slice it, and it's very plumbing-centric
#
[snarfed]
oh I shoould mention that Jay (Bluesky lead) finally got back to me
#
[snarfed]
"Thank you for submitting this solution to the Satellite contest! There were a lot of responses, and I'll be taking the time to evaluate every one. I haven't updated the leaderboard yet since I haven't had the chance to read them all as they come in, but Friday was the final submission deadline, so I'll be wrapping up assessments soon."
