Wrote way too much about what turns out to be one configuration chore and a URL rewrite through a proxy to make sure all my caturday vids are mp4  https://martymcgui.re/2021/11/21/saving-the-caturday-with-a-video-proxy/

(mostly it is a eulogy for my use of Shortcuts for IndieWeb because I find it too frustrating to work with after the iOS 15 update)

capjamesg[d]: not sure about best practices but I have been testing a way to automate the deployment of a static site from github to digitalocean server through actions. I finally added it to my site too so you can see the relevant workflow if you need a starting point: https://github.com/benjifs/benji

Thank you for sharing [benji]. The action flow is helpful!

I am a bit confused about this post type discovery item: "If the post has a "photo" property with a valid URL, Then it is a photo post. "
#
capjamesg[d]
My articles have a u-photo for the main photo.
#
capjamesg[d]
Does that mean they are photo posts per post-type-discovery?
#
[schmarty]
capjamesg[d]: u-featured is recommended for longer articles that have a particular image in them that you want to highlight
#
capjamesg[d]
Ah, I see.

[schmarty]
Oop, and I forgot to answer your question - yes, if you have what would otherwise be considered an article post and add in a u-photo inside, post-type-discovery would now call that a photo post.
#
[schmarty]
what is featured?
#
Loqi
featured is a proposed mf2 property (typically as u-featured) for h-entry that indicates a representative image for a post https://indieweb.org/featured
#
[schmarty]
haha! that reminded me to see how checkins are handled by ptd since many checkin's have photos and it looks like we don't have an explicit case for e.g. "u-checkin" like i thought.
#
[schmarty]
we have what looks like a brittle suggested algorithm tweak that hasn't made it in: https://indieweb.org/post-type-discovery#Feature_consideration_checkin
#
[schmarty]
what is checkin?
#
Loqi
A checkin is the action of checking into a location and sharing that information https://indieweb.org/checkin
#
aaronpk
oh interesting, i guess checkins weren't very prevalent when PTD was first written but i suspect there are enough examples to add it now
#
[schmarty]
looks like /checkin offers an explicit u-checkin in the how-to-markup example, so that may be worth noting on PTD!

Is there an issue filed on PTD to track adding check-in?
#
[tantek]2
And yes it was too rare / unsettled to actually include

Question is still how many people are posting checkins without OwnYourSwarm. It’s basicly OYS dictating the format now.
#
aaronpk
OYS doesn't dictate how you publish the checkins on your site tho
#
Seb[d]
On the other side, that at least gives a common vocab.
#
Seb[d]
Oh that’s a good point
#
Seb[d]
I am one of those people who couple their Micropub requests to their Mf2 representation on the site. Maybe I should take more liberty with that

#
[tantek]2
aaronpk that seems like splitting hairs
#
[tantek]2
implementations mapping Micropub requests 1:1 to the format that is published is a very reasonable (least work, least reinventing) expectation
#
[tantek]2
thus "basically OYS dictating" is not inaccurate
#
[tantek]2
emphasis on the "basically"
#
[tantek]2
more de facto than dictating though
#
aaronpk
yes it's reasonable to assume people are going to do a 1:1 mapping, but i was pointing out that it's by no means required
#
aaronpk
in fact i don't even do a 1:1 mapping from OYS to my published markup
#
[tantek]2
that's probably worth documenting and why it's not a 1:1 mapping
#
aaronpk
mainly because of how i handle templates
#
[tantek]2
got it, more of an implementation detail
#
[tantek]2
for folks interested in actually formalizing check-in detection/markup (e.g. for inclusion in PTD), we could use some markup analysis & documentation of the individual examples in https://indieweb.org/checkin#IndieWeb_Examples
#
[tantek]2
for an example of how to add markup analysis & docs to individual examples, see individual video examples: https://indieweb.org/video#IndieWeb_Examples
#
[tantek]2
only by documenting the actual markup in use by existing real world examples can we be sure that there's consensus-in-actions rather than just theory
