[manton] if you did that soon it might tip the fediverse poll over 10 million

Do you use indieauth? Check out my blog post on implementing indieauth and enabling h-entry on my website using Datenstrom Yellow Flat File CMS. https://lifeofpablo.com/blog/i-added-indielogin-to-my-site-and-making-it-h-entry-compatible #indie #indieauth #indieweb #community #w3c #opensource #datenstrom #cms #implementation #hentry

[KevinMarks] That would be cool! But (spoiler) we have less than 1 million users. 😞 Still running a script to update old users to enable ActivityPub, so will have a better idea of updating the nodeinfo stuff in a few days probably.
#
[KevinMarks]
Last I looked we're about 60, 000 short of 10M
#
sknebel
[KevinMarks]: "mastodon instances"
#
sknebel
its not counting fediverse size, its counting mastodon accounts
#
sknebel
so a) fediverse is already larger probably, b) micro.blog wouldnt count either way
#
[KevinMarks]
It would if Manton does the node info thing
#
sknebel
that bot counts mastodon instances
#
sknebel
not software that provides nodeinfo
#
sknebel
it doesnt even use nodeinfo

Oh interesting. I was looking at fediverse.observer which shows 8.5 million, unless I’m reading it wrong. Wonder why that’s so different than that 9.9 million number above.
#
[manton]
Never mind, I see [sknebel] answered the count difference.

Is there a way to fall back on the string if the date doesn't parse?

One of the things I like about nunjucks/jinja2 is the dealing with odd data better than most languages do. There's always a way to pipe it to something to deal with it

I like jinja2.

The slight problem with it is the temptation to write all the code in the template rather than the python.

[KevinMarks] Hugo now exits a build on any parse error so there is no way to speculatively check if the value can be parsed.
#
[KevinMarks]
That feels like a bug report/ missing catch case
#
[schmarty]
I agree, but am not presently willing to directly engage the reporting process. Collecting the details in a blog post has used up my present energy for dealing with it. πŸ™‚
