Does anyone POSSE questions (or answers) to Stack Overflow?
#
[tantek]
did you post that answer on your site as well? (either at the time or later?)
#
aaronpk
whoa, i don't even remember posting that
#
[tantek]
it claims you've posted 1 question and 12 answers
#
aaronpk
jan 2020, the before times
#
[tantek]

#
[tantek]

!tell [Joe_Crawford] I know you've posted on Stack Overflow before, do you ever post those on your own site too?
#
Loqi
Ok, I'll tell them that when I see them next

sharing this in dev because the higher-level topic (APIs, dev protests / business models vs service business models) is more #indieweb-dev related: https://reddark.untone.uk/ — what are people's thoughts on this? Is this a distinct type of protest phenomenon worth documenting that's not quite a silo-quit?
#
[tantek]
another example would be, a mass "protest" of taking social media accounts "private" for similar reasons
#
[tantek]
I've been considering at least taking my Twitter account private (again), for similar reasons, and because the use-case which made me make it "public" again is pretty much gone (posting about a conference with hashtags for that conference)
#
[tantek]
I wish Twitter private accounts had a way of "allow-listing" folks proactively

#
[jacky]
that would be interesting but I can't imagine it'd have the impact people would think it has _if_ they haven't already been included in those insular communities
#
[jacky]
^ that's the follow up to that statement, lol
#
[jacky]
if that was a thing, I could imagine that would wreck engagement
#
[tantek]
like if I had a private account, and I wanted to reply to a *public* tweet but wanted the author of that tweet to be able to see my reply, I'd like to "allow list" them to see my tweets without them having to request to follow me (or having to follow me at all)
#
[tantek]
more like the Dopplr model of granting permissions to others to view your trips

What is Twitter Circle?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "Twitter Circle" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "Twitter Circle is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
gRegor
No personal experience, but is https://help.twitter.com/en/using-twitter/twitter-circle kind of what you mean?
#
gRegor
Hm, can only have one "circle" and 150 people in it

personal web sites have done this to protest bad laws before, right? eg FOSTA/SESTA, others?
#
[snarfed]
[tantek] I've POSSEd a few questions to stack overflow and its sites, eg https://snarfed.org/is-email-deliverability-impossible-with-a-name-email-address, along with a bit of manual backfeed

what is temporary shutdown
#
Loqi
The temporary shutdown of a website is a means to express support for a cause by closing one's website for a limited time (typically a day) and displaying a campaign message instead - a form of one day banner activism https://indieweb.org/temporary_shutdown
#
[tantek]
Indeed, perhaps that's the page to expand to include this Silo Example
#
[tantek]
[snarfed]++ for a real world IndieWeb example!
