WTF Twitter broke inbound links to permalinks (it just redirects you to the home page)
#
[tantek]
i.e. if I click on the "View on Twitter" link on my post, it takes you to the Twitter home page
#
[tantek]
if I copy that URL and paste it into the URL bar, it loads the tweet permalink
#
[tantek]
I saw this happen during demos and thought it must be a bug or bad link on my end but no, this is Twitter redirecting any deep link into a permalink to their home page
#
[tantek]
I am very tempted to turn off displaying syndication links to Twitter if this isn't fixed soon. I have no desire to direct people to Twitter's home page.
#
[tantek]
for example: go here: https://tantek.com/2023/300/t1/border-none-indiewebcamp-nurnberg and click on the "View on Twitter" link in the bottom right corner. Does it display my POSSE tweet or does it redirect you to Twitter's home page?

That worked for me, but I don't have the twitter app installed.
#

This is on a laptop
#
barnaby
works fine for me on desktop firefox
#
[tantek]
ok that's weird it just worked for me too
#
[tantek]
maybe it's an intermittent error?
#
[tantek]
(I tried it in a Firefox Private Windo)
#
barnaby
works for me in a private window too, and I’m logged out of twitter.com in my browser anyway
#
[tantek]
thanks for the verification. will watch to see if it happens again.

Thanks [jeremycherfas]. For now I'll postpone worrying about it. But I may code up switches in my UI to turn off display of syndication links by silo
#
aaronpk
Good plan, I should do that too
#
aaronpk
e.g all my app.net links that are broken RIP
#
[tantek]
oh yeah
#
aaronpk
That's also better than just deleting them, because the data might be useful later

ok, I added "[[Falcon]]: code up a UI to switch off display of syndication links by silo, perhaps start with a static array of "dead-to-me-silos" domains in falcon.php" to the "See Also" section of /User:Tantek.com/tinbox https://indieweb.org/wiki/index.php?diff=90268&oldid=89780
#
[tantek]
aaronpk, precisely, the syndication links are still there for look-up e.g. in the internet archive
#
[tantek]
tinbox << ^ perhaps a tri-state per syndication destination: on, use Internet Archive copy, off

ok, I added "^ perhaps a tri-state per syndication destination: on, use Internet Archive copy, off" to the "See Also" section of /User:Tantek.com/tinbox https://indieweb.org/wiki/index.php?diff=90269&oldid=90268

wow, Pleroma prefixes Bridgy Fed handles with an ugly hash, eg @ARH2JS1YMQXugE3HZw.snarfed.org@snarfed.org : https://pleroma.envs.net/users/ARH2JS1YMQXugE3HZw
#

how did that happen?
#

where's the hash coming from?

based on the URL, I assume its own internal id

oh wait I guess this is Akkoma, not Pleroma? despite the hostname. 🤷

[snarfed]: might be an older version of akkoma maybe or some misconfiguration. My akkoma does not do this: https://fedi.srijan.dev/users/ARH2J8WrU9En9ZzmSG
#
srijan
but for me, follow from my instance does not fully work. It shows up as follower on bridgy fed, but on akkoma it keeps saying "Request sent!".

Well, that’s awkward… Was just loading http://ostatus.org/schema/1.0/subscribe and see that the domain must’ve expired and it’s taken over by some gambling game. 😞
#
aaronpk
of course
#
[manton]
Really unfortunate because Mastodon uses it from WebFinger, so you’d expect the URL to be documentation for the link type.

what is zombie
#
Loqi
zombie is in the context of the web a website that has been lost or died, perhaps due to domain registration neglect, and has been brought back by some other looking sorta like it did before, but oddly broken, often with spam pages/links added, and eats a lot of CPU likely due to abusive scripts https://indieweb.org/zombie

if I want to share a violentmonkey userscript that shims in webShare API for desktop firefox (only browser that seems to be missing it) should I just link to where I'm hosting it, or copy it into the wiki?
#

gRegor
You could publish it on your site and link that, or a gist maybe. Wiki does support <code> and <pre> if necessary though.

Now that I have time (re: #indieweb-chat), I think I'll spend some time trying to bring back the content from http://v2.jacky.wtf back to my current site
#
[jacky]
Migration pains but thankfully it's all flat files (even the database)
#
[jacky]
Would it be bad to resend Webmentions if I bring those URLs back?
#
[jacky]
Like I'd want to, for a few weeks, make http://v2.jacky.wtf redirect to my main site and then take it offline again (lol)
#
[snarfed]
totally ok to resend webmentions!
#
[schmarty]
they're "Technical Idempotent!™"

#
[jacky]
Okay cool I think I might also make a little notice page about it in case anyone has links to update
