by this, i meant that 4.0 deprecated the HTML/HAML rails-generated templates in favor of the javascript webapp. mastodon's microformats support wasn't ported to the js app, sadly... > <+[aciccarello]> What does it mean to deprecate HTML permalinks?

the way of js;dr 😭

[jacky]
but that `/embed` helps

old reply i know, but the mastodon/documentation repo is indeed frustratingly opaque and slow to approve/merge changes. it's extremely discouraging, and the pr mentioned is a result of that -- at the time it was made, only gargron had merge permissions, and gargron was also swamped with other stuff re: the main project. i tried to get him to delegate but uh.

tbh these are all notes for me if/when I do make anything

trwnh, thanks for the context

Deprecating the HTML representation for Web app only is definitely unfortunate even though they've been moving that way for a while.

I did a quick search of the archives and couldn’t find anything related, so… Has there been any consideration of establishing an IndieWeb org on https://codeberg.org as an alternative (or complement to) GitHub…?
#
[jgarber]
*Ups:* German-based non-profit, seems to have _most_ of GitHub’s features, source code isn’t used to train “A.I.” that feeds the capitalist beast, ???
#
[jgarber]
*Downs:* years of accumulated inertia and IndieWeb code is on GitHub, fewer of us have accounts on Codeberg, ???
#
[tantek]
Does codeberg support IndieAuth?
#
[jgarber]
Options appear to be username/pass, GitHub, or GitLab: https://codeberg.org/user/login
#
[jgarber]
Looks like an issue was opened recently on Forgejo, the underlying software powering the service: https://codeberg.org/forgejo/forgejo/issues/1692
#
[jgarber]
(I haven’t read through all of the comments on that issue yet.)
#
[tantek]
In my opinion that's a bare minimum before I'd consider moving any projects to codeberg. Github "just works" in our community because Github logins are ubiquitous. Any alternative / competitor suffers from the "fewer of us have accounts on Codeberg" problem, and thus any such alternative at least for this community must at least support IndieAuth and allowing us to "just" use our domain names to sign-in etc. so we don't have to be bothered
#
[tantek]
with the "create another account" barrier for ourselves and future IndieWeb contributors
#
[jgarber]
Makes sense!

what is codeberg
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "codeberg" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "codeberg is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
[tantek]
^ maybe start that page with what we know so far, that feature request issue, and brainstorming considerations for usage for IndieWeb projects?
#
[tantek]
what is GitLab
#
Loqi
GitLab offers git repository management, code reviews, issue tracking, activity feeds and wikis https://indieweb.org/GitLab
#
[tantek]
^ similar page

Codeberg is an online service offering Git repository hosting, issue trackers, code review tools, activity feeds, and wikis similar to GitHub and GitLab. The platform is operated by Codeberg e.V., a German non-profit association and presents itself as a, “a humane, non-commercial and privacy-friendly alternative to commercial services.”

Ah, may’ve waited too long with that response.

I get that “code mountain“ sounds cool in german, but every time I see that name I have to think of fatbergs

!tell aaronpk: looks like p3k/xray needs a new packagist release? v1.12.0 is current but tied to mf2/mf2 ^0.4. that conflicts w/ indieweb/indieauth-client-php which requires mf2/mf2 ^0.5. p3k/xray dev-main is up-to-date on deps tho'
