I wonder what I should drop

[tantek]
Already do
#
gRegor
Yeah I was pleasantly surprised they support it. Found a StackOverflow answer, of course, haha

[preview] [dshanske] #285 Update venue on check-in
#
GWG
Anyone using OwnYourSwarm... have you considered what to do locally of the venue name in Swarm changes the next time you checkin there,
#
[schmarty]
GWG: i keep the venue info as delivered by OYS with the checkin rather than merging into a single venue list.
#
[schmarty]
(thus i am no help, sorry 🙃)
#
GWG
I look for matches between the URL and the local URL or a secondary field for other instances of the venue...such as the Foursquare URL.
#
GWG
I debated a lot about what to call that. In a post, it is u-syndication... but I didn't create the other instance
#
GWG
I think I ended up with url, as well as alternate, and type of venue.
#
GWG
I should spend some time on the venue page documenting some things
#
aaronpk
I also duplicate the venue information inside each checkin
#
aaronpk
denormalized++
#
Loqi
denormalized has 1 karma over the last year
#
aaronpk
it was intentional because if the venue changes name i don't want all the past checkins to change to the new name
#
GWG
aaronpk: Do you know what Swarm does when a new thing opens at the same place versus a renaming?
#
GWG
I have a solution to that.. I want to update the local venue page.. I store the name displayed per post, so a historic check-in would show the old name and link to the new one
#
aaronpk
all combinations are possible
#
aaronpk
you can rename a swarm venue, and then the rename affects all past checkins. you can also mark a venue as closed and create a new one
#

One of these days I'll have to improve my local UI for this. I discovered that the query I was looking for isn't built in so have to build it.
#
GWG
And Indiepass doesn't seem to have the location search function the old version has, or I can't find it

eh, some good ones in there, and some ones that are more opinions (or browser bugs) than actual HTML problems
#
[tantek]
in short: too many not quite right things to be worthy of sharing further (and thus propagating actual or borderline misinformation). feels like a rushed Advent article (which I've seen many of in the past, sad to say)
#
[tantek]
this reminds me of the microbrowser debacle which I probably ranted a bit too hard against, and then the advent calendar that it was a part of decided to close down after that year 😕

[preview] [Tantek Çelik] link preview agent — n. a user agent that crawls a web page for text, image(s), link(s) etc. to make a link preview https://indieweb.org/link-preview. @24ways (ht @KevinMarks): it’s not a “microbrowser” (already an alias for mobile browser¹...

if you implement any kind of auto-suggest in your text-entry UI, like for a post, or notes, PLEASE provide a way to turn off the auto-suggestions, especially from particular sources
#
[tantek]
example, I find this UI in Apple MacOS notes to be extremely annoying: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253819039?sortBy=best
#
[tantek]
also a plain text editor should not turn every use of "#" into a hashtag link inline, it's again super annoying. I get it when publishing, but when just taking notes on your own? no need to make those things into clickable blobs that are then harder to edit
