AramZS [tantek] I think of `rel=canonical` and `SameAs` or `isBasedOn` as ways to consolidate different versions of one thing to point at a single point of truth for that thing. If you add the markup to make that thing an identity page vs any other type of page they're very useful for--conceptually--something like what it seems we were talking about.
