capjamesg that was for RSS output, right? RSS authors are anachronistic and email-oriented, their format is '[email] ([name])' . https://www.rssboard.org/rss-specification#ltauthorgtSubelementOfLtitemgt
#
[snarfed]
when granary doesn't find an email address, it uses - as a placeholder
#
[tantek]
^ good reason to not use / publish RSS
#
[tantek]
its treatment of authors is anachronistic

[preview] [aaronpk] capjamesg: one of my thoughts that's been in the back of my mind for a while is to automatically generate a slug for my posts. Right now, I've been finding myself manually choosing slugs that are 1-2 words, based on the most significant words in the ...

wow a year already

same thoughts, not done anything yet
#
capjamesg[d]
I have been playing around with this and have something, but it's maybe not ready yet.
#
aaronpk
maybe i can use AI for this lol
#
capjamesg[d]
It uses entropy and some classical NLP to filter out less relevant words in a title while keeping more relevant ones.
#
capjamesg[d]
You can use AI. But who wants a slug generator that takes seconds to run and might not give you a good answer 😄
#
capjamesg[d]
I was reading the /slug page, which is how I found that note.

[tantek]
what is a slug
#
Loqi
A slug is a series of words in a permalink URL, usually at the end, that are from or representative of the name or text of a post, and thus part of an overall URL design https://indieweb.org/slug

^ also "playing around with this and have something, but it's maybe not ready yet" is more than enough to be worthy of adding some thoughts to that Brainstorming section

[tantek] "I was reading the /slug page, which is how I found that note."
#
capjamesg[d]
I had already read the page.
#
capjamesg[d]
I'll document when I have something open. I may blog about it.
#
[tantek]
capjamesg[d] I figured since you cited a chat message instead of the wiki page that you may have missed the wiki page.

[tantek]
Always cite the wiki page rather than a chat archive, to encourage expanding the wiki page
