[Murray] A welcome move by Netlify: https://www.netlify.com/blog/introducing-netlify-free-plan/

funkylarma I'm currently using their Starter plan and got an email to say I would be put on the Free plan in January. Could not see any issues with this and like you say a very welcome move.

funkylarma Does anyone have any experience or comparisons with CloudFlare pages and Netlify?

[Joe_Crawford] https://blogofthe.day/ uses Netlify and I also got the email. I've been just the least bit paranoid about the fact that this service is so valuable and yet I'm paying nothing--so it's great to get clarity on what Free entails and where the edges would be.
#
[Murray] hmm, Log Rocket tend to be pretty good with their articles. This one is a little old, but it suggests CloudFlare has a generally better "starter plan" equivalent: https://blog.logrocket.com/netlify-vs-cloudflare-pages/#netlify-vs-cloudflare-summary

[mattl] Check out http://bunny.net too.

#
[mattl] Iām using a mix of http://bunny.net and Cloudflare to host a site for virtually free

#
[Joe_Crawford] I think of Netlify as "serverless web hosting" somehow. And Cloudflare I think of as "firewall and load balancer as a service." I also suspect I am nowhere near encapsulating what either do.

superkuh It's good that they seem to have been forced to resolve some of these issues. But I'd still avoid them since their culture is the same as ever.
#
superkuh I was just looking at that. Seems like the update was put into the wrong section?
#
superkuh I think both of us were editing the page the same day, left the tab open, then didn't realize the other had made edits.
#
superkuh Weird that it says I made an edit today. I have not.
#
superkuh Maybe I'm reading this wrong.
#
superkuh I last changed it 31st of october.
#
superkuh Any, good it's fixed.
#
superkuh way.
#
superkuh Thanks.

[mattl] Yeah, http://bunny.net is web hosting too. Combine it with Cloudflare to cache stuff for free and it's a great little static publishing thing for pennies.

carrvo It is really interesting to hear about ways to publically host for free/pennies.
#
carrvo Right now I am focused on self-hosting because I want some services inside my home and keep it from leaving my home network. Isolation fallback is the theme š
#
carrvo Less external traffic, no public security issues, and availability if I loose internet are appealing for me at the moment.
#
carrvo [mattl] that is convenient!

funkylarma Had a closer look at CloudFlare Pages this afternoon and decided to give it a try. Changed the name servers on my domain and everything is running from CloudFlare
