Hm, my modified @anthony@ciccarello.me fediverse name seems to have reverted to @ciccarello.me@ciccarello.me on Bridgy Fed. I'll want to look into that tomorrow

Kolev, Zegnat: what do you do to work around hairpinning?
#
carrvo
This is my first time hearing the term and, after looking it up, it is something that annoys me.

Currently I am using an internal and external domain pointing to the same final destination.

carrvo: for (most) hosts we add to our kubernetes ingress, we also patch configmaps/coredns-custom to make it map internally (something akin to https://medium.com/@isihu/avoid-hairpinning-in-an-elegant-way-using-coredns-01eb353777f7)

carrvo: then, because our nginx ingress expects the PROXY protocol we also deploy hapoxy to our cluster. CoreDNS actually points at the haproxy and not at our ingress. That way haproxy can forward the requests using the PROXY protocol to nginx. This solution was inspired by: https://github.com/compumike/hairpin-proxy
