Per https://fed.brid.gy/docs#web-profile I have `<a class="u-url" href="acct:mailto:anthony@ciccarello.me"></a>` on my homepage https://www.ciccarello.me/ but I can no longer find @anthony@ciccarello.me when searching toot.cafe
#
[aciccarello]
[snarfed] It seems like the custom u-url acct: stopped working for my site.
#
[aciccarello]
I can find my account at @ciccarello.me@ciccarello.me and that's what the bridgy fed website shows on my profile https://fed.brid.gy/web/ciccarello.me
#
[aciccarello]
I refreshed my account profile details from the bridgy fed site but it didn't seem to be any different

I got a small flood of old webmentions via http://webmention.io about 4 hours ago - did something break (or get fixed)?

not that i am aware of
#
aaronpk
could be the sender just re-sent them because of salmention or any other reason

aaronpk Does webmention.io save the "me" parameter?
#
capjamesg[d]
[lazcorp] Were they older posts? If so, that might have been me.
#
capjamesg[d]
I sent webmentions from and to every link in the network of blogs I follow.
#
capjamesg[d]
This happens once a day, around midnight.

"Save" in what sense?

I've been able to deploy my updates, now you can get a random movie; https://www.trovster.com/movies/random
#
[lazcorp]
@capjamesg[d] - yes, they were older posts, and I should qualify that I saw the webmentions on the Atom feed from http://webmention.io so it could even have been some change to the Atom feed
#
capjamesg[d]
aaronpk Is it possible for a user of webmention.io to see that a "me" parameter was sent in the POST request?
#
[lazcorp]
[aaronpk] they definitely weren't resent because they were from my site to my site (a bug I've got to fixed where my blog sends webmentions to myself if I reference another page on my site in a blog post)

I’m starting to think one thing one creative / development effort we could do as a community (or even as individuals) would be to rebuild all the primarily positive Web 2.0 "social content" sites except as aggregators with zero accounts, and 100% web sign-in + webmentions to contribute content
#
[tantek]
E.g. news.indieweb is sorta this for bookmarks, but needs tags support to replace Delicious
#
[tantek]
Similarly we could use an Upcoming replacement for events
#
[tantek]
Nevermind that "not everyone can login" because that's the point. One reason those Web 2.0 sites were primarily positive is that they were dominated by a set of positive optimistic folks with shared values
#
[tantek]
(Until they "scaled" and were not)
#
[tantek]
So don't prioritize scaling. Or rather scaling is what leads to a worse experience

Being purchased my entities with primarily financial incentives is what killed your e.g's of http://Del.icio.us and Upcoming. But scaling begets costs which can be "solved" by aligning with huge corporations with lots of money.

If you have no account creation, there's no personal data to disclaim or export right?
#
capjamesg[d]
[tantek] I have found myself wanting a coffee news aggregator 😄
#
sebbu
depends, some sites have account creation and login being the same thing, just an SSO from another site (fb, google, X, etc...)
#
sebbu
no username choice, no password
#
sebbu
all tied to the sso used
#
[snarfed]
ironically, relatedly, the https://upcoming.org/ reboot from years ago seems to have stagnated and died
#
[tantek]
Snarfed rather it stalled and remained an archive right?
#
[tantek]
Oh you mean the new site. Yeah
#
[tantek]
Depends on silo login. Bunch of us at the time said please support IndieAuth login

[aciccarello] fixed your BF account, it's back to using the anthony username now. sorry for the bug, thanks for the nudge!

So with ActivityPub compared to normal blog comment pages it's kind of awkward if I didn't already follow the account. But, there is a way to pull the ActivityPub posts into my Akkoma instance retroactively (by searching for the permalink URL)!
#
sandra
Once we get Bridgy Fed to work (once #874 is merged), will there be a similar way to bring in bsky posts to reply to them? Or how about other AT proto apps like Frontpage? (As you can tell I don't really understand how AT proto even works.)
#
sandra
That's been so fun with ActivityPub, how I can use this one account to comment on random PeerTube and Lemmy pages that I stumble over without having to had been following them before hand.
#
sandra
Either way it's gonna be good that people over there can follow me and comment
#
sandra
So it's still useful. And the bsky users don't need to be bridged for them to reply and for me to reply to the replies, right?
#
sandra
Third question: is it possible to migrate the DID from Bridgy Fed into another AT proto account?
#
sandra
I guess of the three questions the main one was the middle one. (Apologies for the flood.)
#
[snarfed]
sandra glad you're enjoying it! hmm, I'm trying to parse some of your questions
#
[snarfed]
re the third one, sadly no, migrating DIDs out of BF isn't supported, https://fed.brid.gy/docs#migration
#
[snarfed]
for Bluesky accounts that are bridged, Bridgy Fed can convert and serve their posts as AP objects, with id URLs that you can load in a fediverse instance
#
[snarfed]
does that help?
#
sandra
I'm really stoked for the bridge to eventually work thanks to yours and Oneric's hard work 🙏🏻. I haven't gotten to try it yet but I'm so happy for it. I subscribed to that account migration GH issue (please don't misread that as entitlement, I just did out of curiousity).
#
sandra
How about the middle question which I'll rephrase as… If I'm on Fedi and use bridgy so my posts show up on bsky, will I see the non-bridged bsky-users' replies to my posts and be able to reply back to them?
#
sandra
s/bridgy/bridgy fed/
#
[snarfed]
sadly no. the point of not being bridged is that BF won't bridge your stuff, whether replies or posts or anything else
#
[snarfed]
it's definitely a common request though! we'd love to do something for it eventually, but we're honestly not sure exactly what yet
#
sandra
Maybe if the bot could whisper me their replies and I could whisper back…? Sort of like how bitlbee lets me use an IRC app like rcirc to talk to my XMPP friends without them having to worry that their XMPP messages are "published" to all of libera.
#
[snarfed]
maybe! but some people who don't opt in really don't want BF handling their stuff at all, in any way, full stop. 🤷
#
[aciccarello]
Thanks for the fix!
