you may also get somewhere with cloudflare pages, i know they can do some stuff and there's a thing called bandwidth alliance

Wow automated vulnerability scraping is really bad nowadays huh? My webserver was live for like a day and there's hundreds of requests for all sorts of stuff. It's really unnerving...
#
[tantek]
yeah that's too real
#
[tantek]
makes services like Cloudflare that do more defensive things "automatically" seem more appealing

Indiewebring is still not working [schmarty] (apologies if you already replied to this issue, I didn't see it)
#
[mattl]
now on the http://Libre.fm homepage -- the number of songs scrobbled in the last 24 hours. 52,860 today.
#
[mattl]
Currently running those numbers from April 1st 2009 (http://Libre.fm's birthday)-today and will make a daily CSV available.
#
[schmarty]
thanks Xander! I don't immediately recognize what might be the issue so I'll take a look later this week.

[snarfed] Would it be possible to delete the bsky http://fed.brid.gy DIDs for http://beesbuzz.biz and sockpuppet.band? I think I want to move back to a POSSE model for those, but I can't see any way to disconnect the DIDs from bsky. I want to keep the ActivityPub bridges for them though.
#
[fluffy]
Or if not deleting them, at least converting them to normal bsky accounts so that I can take them over instead of using Bridgy Fed.
#
[fluffy]
I have no idea how the internals work. Basically I want my http://fed.brid.gy pings to keep posting to mastodon but not to bsky, and I want to be able to directly post to bsky from those two domains.
#
[snarfed]
[fluffy] sure! I can disable the Bluesky part of the bridge for your sites
#
[fluffy]
Thanks! What about the other part?
#
[snarfed]
the other part is..."directly post to bsky from those two domains" ?
#
[fluffy]
Yeah basically I want to just have those as regular bsky accounts that I can log into and post from/check notifications directly/etc.
#
[fluffy]
I don't care about preserving the DIDs
#
[snarfed]
if you mean, use them as custom domain handles on your own accounts, sure. that's all you, BF can't either stop you or help you there
#
[fluffy]
How do I take over the domain handles? Aren't they already claimed by bf?
#
[fluffy]
Or is there already a way I can log in as them?
#
[fluffy]
like can I do a password reset or something?
#
[fluffy]
I'm super unclear on how the ATProto stuff works and also I'm assuming http://brid.gy is a 'custom account provider' in this context
#
[fluffy]
I guess a PDS in bsky terminlogy?
#
[snarfed]
right, but you'd be switching to "normal" accounts
#
[snarfed]
here's how to switch your domains to be those new accounts' handles: [fluffy] https://bsky.social/about/blog/4-28-2023-domain-handle-tutorial
#
[fluffy]
yeah I kno whow to do that part, I just was assuming that since the domain is already claimed by the bf PDS that would be a problem
#
[snarfed]
nah, they're switchable, you don't need any participation from the old PDS
#
[fluffy]
ah okay
#
[fluffy]
It looks like I already had a TXT record for a different DID set up, so it'll take me an hour for the new one to propagate before I can verify that it works
#
[fluffy]
Is there a way to look up a DID for an existing handle? I'm not sure where this DID came from and I don't think I ever did any DNS stuff for bridgy fed in that regard
#
[snarfed]
you did, your two bridged accounts have your domains set as their handles, so those are the current DIDs: https://bsky.app/profile/beesbuzz.biz , https://bsky.app/profile/sockpuppet.band
#
[snarfed]
you can update the DNS records to your new native accounts' DIDs
#
[fluffy]
yes that's what I'v ebeen changing, the old ones are still just cached on bsky's end. I guess I used DNS for it and not a .well-known forward like I thought I'd done.
#
gRegor
I've used https://clearsky.app/ to look up some things before, it shows my DID, https://clearsky.app/gregorlove.com/history
#
gRegor
Got an error searching beesbuzz.biz though
#
gRegor
Ah, that debugger is much nicer
#
[fluffy]
Hm, verifying DID by text file also failed, and it's still showing the old DID. Are you sure there's nothing that has to happen to disconnect the bridgy fed account from it first?
#
[fluffy]
https://bsky-debug.app/handle?handle=sockpuppet.band shows the new DID but I'm guessing it's not going through bsky's own APIs for that
#
[fluffy]
probably some caching happening on http://bsky.app or something
#
[snarfed]
right. http://bsky-debug.app is accurate, some of their other bits can be a bit slow
#
[snarfed]
and yeah there's nothing on BF's end. it's all your own DNS or .well-known serving, BF can't control any of that
#
[fluffy]
well, this is all moot for now since I haven't written my POSSE thing yet anyway
#
[fluffy]
How is bsky initially notified of the DID->domain connection?
#
[snarfed]
in the app, in your account settings
#
[fluffy]
no I mean when bridgy fed sets it up
#
[snarfed]
BF tells it
#
[fluffy]
Is there a way you know of to notify bsky that it should reverify a thing so that it can just like, forget about the old DID?
#
[snarfed]
yeah for DIDs BF owns
#
[snarfed]
not for others
#
[fluffy]
I'm worried that the sockpuppet.band handle might now be permanently associated with a dead DID
#
[snarfed]
it's not. you can always move a domain handle
#
[snarfed]
may just take some of bsky's parts a bit of time
#
[fluffy]
okay, guess I'll try waiting an hour to see if there's a cached thing that needs to expire
#
[fluffy]
ah actually it just worked, cache must have expired 🙂

In case anyone is working on better text content authoring UIs to catch awkward (but grammatically correct) errors, the comments in this IG are filled with gold: https://www.ddinstagram.com/reel/DHHSxmsSzHK/

I've been collecting a bunch (of interactive text authoring fixes and suggestions) to implement myself in a list here FWIW: https://indieweb.org/Falcon#prose_improvement

something like nitter i think
#
[tantek]
Yeah like instagramez also. Provides a viewable playable preview directly in chat (most of the time) so you don't have to visit the site

oh its just for the chat and when you click it brings you to the original?

Sometimes it only works in some chat clients like Slack or Discord or sometimes both
