btrem[hit enter too soon] Wikipedia article on CardDAV is pretty brief and doesn't provide much info. But the article on WebDAV is better. And show that writing a WebDAV module for Drupal is definitely going to be beyond my skillset.
btremAlso it wouldn't provide what I want: a way for members of a website to subscribe to an email address book in their preferred email client, so that they can email all members or subsets of those members without resorting to reply-all to the most recent group email they received. Because that list is often out of date.
[tantek]Perhaps another approach would be to ask how would those members message a subset of members via their web addresses instead of email addresses
btremDo you mean message them on the website? Like via forms? Users don't use the website much. They do use email. But the site does have up-to-date email addresses for members. And users can update their own addresses as needed.
btremThe only missing piece is how users can email other members with an up-to-date list. Reply-all relies on old lists that have no-longer-used addresses, include people who have moved out, or are missing new people who have moved in.
btrem[tantek]: Sorry, still not following. The members don't have web addresses. Also, I don't know what "dms" means, probably because I don't use silos. :-/
btremWell in that case, again, wouldn't work. The site does have individual contact forms, but few people use the website. Plus, there's no obvious way to create a form that would go to groups of members.
btremThe solution would be to create a Drupal module to offer a CardDAV server, but that's beyond my abilities. Though I am poking around another module to make that that's true. ;-)
