[morganm] I'm inclined to consider the concept of Worse is Better to understand why it's remained so enduring. You can pick up a little bit of it really fast, do some stuff, then people just kept building on it. Then you get whole attempts at making the whole stack solutions in it and it's kind of not optimal in many big picture ways
