Is there a standard file extension naming convention for the application/activity+json mime type?
#
to2ds
Temporarily I'm stepping on application/json in NGINX but want to be sure before changing code and renaming all the applicable files.
#
to2ds
Was thinking maybe "asjson" but for some reason it felt like someone who prefers to use their first and middle initials and might possibly hang out with John Mastodon 😄
#
[snarfed]
to2ds not that I know of. AP requests in the fediverse are usually served dynamically, so the URLs usually don't have file extensions
#
[snarfed]
you could maybe use .as2.json 🤷
#
to2ds
I like as2.json.
#
to2ds
These files are being served statically in NGINX, so I believe try_files /$1.as2.json =404 should deliver the correct mime type if set in mime.types or even in the location block.

FYI: All of the above not necessary for this use case.
#
to2ds
It can be overridden in the location block as needed.

Added some image previews to my own blogroll. https://artlung.com/blogroll/ (inspired by FrESH today)

After two days of futility, trying to upgrade my Pi OS in place, I finally bit the bullet and decided to start with a fresh image of Trixie, the latest. I didn’t have that many customisations and in the end I think reconstructing those will be the saner option.

CSS question: I have a sticky navbar with a fixed dropdown menu. However, the dropdown menu seems to gain an ever expanding vertical offset department on the scroll. Why is this and how do I fix it?

I'm headed to bed but I think a hamburger menu ought to use either labels or buttons to activate, I like using checkboxes to open menus, looks like this uses hover? I suspect using focus-within would be helpful. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/Reference/Selectors/:focus-within

arbitrary div as the activator is going to be less accessible and mobile unfriendly.

I wrote some code for Reilly's nav which is not precisely the same but demonstrates focus-within which would allow for those sub items to get tabbed to. https://codepen.io/artlung/pen/raagwmm

And with that, time for me to 💤

I neeed to update my hamburger menu to be like a button or smth that is less awkward than what i have now
#
[Jo]2
Atm i have the hamburger icon in the page twice because i was lazy
#
[Jo]2
Probably a checkbox with some :has css to hide themenu

[artlung]++ Nicely done blogroll. Did you automate the creation of the thumbnails and their placement in the page? Also, I’m deeply appreciative of the use of dt and dd.

semi automated. I run those manually on the dev side I can't reliably do that on demand as I would need error handling when the sites fail to load or don't want to be scraped (anubis, cloudflare get in the way)
#
[artlung]
carrvo I took a swipe at a hamburger menu. I include your template.html markup and css in this codepen and hopefully my recommended changes make sense. https://codepen.io/artlung/pen/pvyyVMG

[social] thanks for appreciating the definition list. 🙂 It's not bad but I think I have more changes I want to make.
#
[artlung]
you'll also note that jwz's thumbnail is his lovely no robots page. which I left in place.
#

(I may have to strive to create an error page as aesthetically pleasing as my actual site)
#
[social]
I used to use definition lists a ton. They were under used and not understood.

I’ve been trying to get my host to enable 404 for non PHP pages. It seems there is a vulnerability in NginX around turning that on.
#
[social]
Oddly, the other day my http://vanderwal.net threw a 404 page up (that I created years ago) and I could not get it to repeat it.

artlung++ I appreciate the accessibility notes! Unfortunately I am starting with first swing and not incorporating accessibility into my repertoire yet.

That being said, do I understand correctly that your solution solves the scrolling issue by having sticky -> relative -> absolute in the hierarcy? As opposed to my sticky -> fixed.

carrvo
I originally used sticky -> fixed because sticky -> absolute was cutting off the dropdown at the edge of the sticky grandparent.
#
carrvo
Or is it because you are using `display: flex` that it no longer has the same issue?
#
carrvo
I'm not even very attached to the "hamburger", I just chose it temporarily as something fairly common until I have base functionality. I might take inspiration from capjamesg and turn it into a coffee cup, for example.
#
[artlung]
I invite you to inspect the codepen I shared and evaluate the differences between the original and the rethink, both the HTML and CSS.
#
carrvo
I did. I found the sticky -> relative -> absolute and the `display: flex`, but I find it difficult to read your CSS.
