Why am I getting this "No h-cards found" on https://indiewebify.me/validate-h-card/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.trovster.com ? I have the following HTML…

I'm looking to make a small static site, I want to do some blogging on it though with the possibility of making it an RSS feed. Anyone know any good python frameworks for this? I considered Flask or Django but I really don't need a backend or most of the features that they give

Tried to fix up my h-card on my homepage, but no dice. Doesn't work nicely with my h-card on my CV either. 🤷

Can you check your server logs to make sure the indiewebify site request went through?
#
capjamesg
Oh your page may have two h cards?
#
capjamesg
http://pin13.net/mf2/?url=Trovster.com shows your h card so it can be parsed!

But there are two h-cards which may be confusing the indiewebify site.
#
[Trevor_Morris]
Yeah, there are a few.
#
[Trevor_Morris]
I think I added the one wrapped about the header link, so I had a url to Auth.
#
[Trevor_Morris]
But there should be the one for the header intro including avatar and same in the footer bio.
#
[Trevor_Morris]
Two is definitely more than none!

What is representative h-card?
#
Loqi
The representative h-card for a page is an h-card on that page that represents that page, if any, as not all pages are about a person or organization, a page might not have a representative h-card https://indieweb.org/representative_h-card

Sometimes there's network issues loading the page from indiewebify.me, the live version doesn't surface that error very well (or, at all). Is there cloudflare or anything on your site?
#
[Trevor_Morris]
Nope. Nothing in front of it.
#
gRegor
IWM uses the php-mf2 `fetch` method which is a pretty basic curl request (https://github.com/microformats/php-mf2/blob/main/Mf2/Parser.php#L65)
#
gRegor
php.microformats.io, and I think pin13.net, are using p3k/HTTP to fetch the URL, looks like it sets a custom UA but not sure what else might be different there: https://github.com/microformats/microformats-parser-website-php/blob/main/index.php#L46
#
gRegor
Aha, your site might be responding with text/plain to the curl request? This condition would make php-mf2 return `null` in that case: https://github.com/microformats/php-mf2/blob/main/Mf2/Parser.php#L79
#
gRegor
`curl -i -H "Accept: text/html" https://www.trovster.com
#
gRegor
` is returning `Content-Type: text/plain;charset=UTF-8` for me

Same if I leave out the Accept header. I like the plain text body response though, that's neat

In NGINX.

Fixed. This returns the plain text:
#
[Trevor_Morris]
```curl -X GET https://www.trovster.test```
#
[Trevor_Morris]
and the following returns the normal HTML:
#
[Trevor_Morris]
```curl -i -H "Accept: text/html" https://www.trovster.test```
#
[Trevor_Morris]
https://indiewebify.me/validate-h-card/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.trovster.com%2F seems to find that first h-card, which is wrapped around the header link back to the homepage. It ignores the more complete version, which should contain the `u-photo` and name.
#
[Trevor_Morris]
*Confusingly*, https://indiewebify.me/validate-h-card/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.trovster.com%2Fabout%2Fcv seems to find the Mastodon link, which is the footer (and on the homepage) but ignores the one in the header which is find above *AND* the sidebar which contains more information. Strange.
#
[Trevor_Morris]
Seems that the lack of headers, especially UA, is causing others issues – https://github.com/microformats/php-mf2/issues/259 and no release since 2022 😱
#
aaronpk
[Trevor_Morris]: the h-cards with more info are missing the u-url property, so they aren't considered h-cards that represent your home page
#
aaronpk
wow, i feel like we just released version 0.5.0 of the parser, how was that 3 years ago
#
[Trevor_Morris]
Ah, OK. I guess I misunderstood the functionality.
#
[Trevor_Morris]
That picks up the code in the footer. But is still missing the `u-photo`
#
aaronpk
i highly recommend looking at the raw parser result to troubleshoot things like that
#

#
aaronpk
i see the problem, you have a `u-photo` class on the `<picture>` element in addition to on the elements inside the picture element
#
[Trevor_Morris]
I think I added it to the elements inside `<picture>` to try and fix issues.
#
aaronpk
it needs to be on only the element that has the URL you want to use for the photo
#
[Trevor_Morris]
But would that be the `<picture>` ?
#
aaronpk
is there a `src` or `href` attribute on the `<picture>` element?
#
aaronpk
the `u-` prefix tells the parser to use the value from the `src` or `href` of the element that has the `u-` class
#
[Trevor_Morris]
No, a `<picture>` element doesn't have those.
#
aaronpk
then no `u-photo` on the `<picture>` element
#
[Trevor_Morris]
OK. Then I'll need to fathom how I can remove it from this component! One for tomorrow… cheers
