a thought: is <h1> inappropriate for a site's header?
#
ulhar4409
like, my site currently does that for the header and i'm wondering if it should do something else

seems fine...? it is literally a header tag
#
ulhar4409
i mean, semantically speaking
#
ulhar4409
like, if a site has a navigation bar at the top, should it get to use the h1?
#
ulhar4409
or should it save that for the "content"

What I remember being told is that there should only be one h1 per page.

You can use <nav></nav> and style that.

ulhar4409 i think the <header> tag works for your use case

probably yeah, mostly i'll miss the header being Inherently Big
#
ulhar4409
(which i guess is what CSS is for but y'know)
#
ulhar4409
anyway - is there a good way to have JS insert element(s) somewhere in the document? my footer has a theme selector that doesn't really need to be present to begin with if JS isn't available to make it usable

For something like that, I've usually set up a .requires-javascript selector that visually hides the element, then on document.ready, have JS remove that class

i actually did something like that at first, i put a `hidden` attribute on the theme selector, but that only hides it if the client also interprets CSS, i think (it has no effect in Lynx and EWW, so the element still appears there)
#
ulhar4409
here's the code i ended up writing to make the element not appear without JS enabled: https://ulhar.net/assets/js/theme-toggle.js

crowdersoup, I went through the "Login with your website" process and it seemed to all work, ended up back on the post, but the Webmention form still prompts me to log in.

[preview] [Aaron Crowder] I keep sharing links to my blog, so I figured I’d update my blog to let you leave comments on it too. Now theres native commenting, with a real data model, clean front-end forms, and a simple moderation flow in the admin. Spam is filtered early wit... https://crowdersoup-blog.sfo3.cdn.digitaloceanspaces.com/uploads/image/2026/01/cf0ff8b2-5af7-411e-b5a9-d9ab9b37a54b.png

I will do a more thorough pass of that. I was able to get it to work for myself but it's kinda hard to test without having a "dev" identity lol
#
gRegor
Welcome, let me know if you want me to test again sometime. It might also be nice if when it returns back to the post, it's on the "Webmention" toggle already. It defaulted to the comments form for me
#
crowdersoup
I will make note of that feature!
#
gRegor
Do your posts only accept webmentions if signed in?
#
crowdersoup
No, you should be able to send a webmention to my webmention endpoint normally
#
crowdersoup
https://crowdersoup.com/webmention <- That's my webmention endpoint
#
gRegor
Nice. Login is a good anti form-spam measure
#
crowdersoup
Yeah, that was my thought. With regular comments I'm using Akismet and CloudFlare turnstile

Another thing I did today was enrich my RSS feed so that posts now look like you'd expect them to.
