Nice. XSLT? Note that Chrome is gonna stop support for that :/
#
gRegor
what is xslt
#
Loqi
XSLT (eXtensible Stylesheet Language Transformations) is a styling and transformation language for XML that some indieweb community members use to style their RSS feeds for human readability in browsers https://indieweb.org/XSLT

maybe [avatar, welcome], [links...]
#
ulhar4409
something like this i think
#
ulhar4409
with A being avatar, welcome being "welcome to $domain", links being navigational stuff

Is there something like a "cURL to PDF" out there? I'm just starting to look. Basically I want to pipe some URLs to be cURLs and then saved as a PDF to a folder

I might try it out on my personal website first

For an 11ty project, which node module should I use, microformats-node or microformats-parser? https://microformats.org/wiki/parsers lists mf parsers, but doesn't say which one is better! :-D

i don't know how it would do with music notation, im assuming some latex conversion, but ive used https://wkhtmltopdf.org/ on webpages

#
[aciccarello]
btrem, I use the npm package `microformats-parser`
#
btrem
[aciccarello]++ maybe I'll try that one first. I'm playing with an idea for bookmark posts: add only a url to my front matter, and have 11ty fetch the url, and if there's microformats, parse it for the title and author.

#
[aciccarello]
For my site, I have my micropub server (indiekit) get the microformats for the bookmarked site for me.
#
[aciccarello]
That way I don't need to worry about link rot affecting my builds
#
btrem
hmm, yeah linkrot. Something I haven't thought about yet.
#
btrem
How does indiekit solve that problem?
#
[aciccarello]
One of it's libraries uses microformats-parser to add a references object to the JF2 representation of the microformats https://github.com/getindiekit/mf2tojf2
#
[aciccarello]
So you could actually defer to mf2tojf2 to do the same thing if you were going to write something up yourself
#
btrem
I don't quite follow that, and I don't really understand micropub TBH.
#
btrem
Never used micropub, or microsub.
#
[aciccarello]
Yeah, micropub is a whole other thing but TL;DR it's an api for apps to help you post to your site.
#
btrem
I think I might be an outlier here. I don't really do social media, I have no interest in it. So some indie web technologies are just not on my radar.
#
[aciccarello]
Totally feel free to only use what you want. For me, micropub is the easiest way to bookmark.
#
btrem
So you use micropub to publish your bookmark posts, and in the course of publishing, you have the micropub service fetch the bookmark's mf? Is that right?
#
btrem
Ok. But how does that prevent the problem of linkrot?
#
[aciccarello]
When I bookmark a site, indiekit checks the bookmark-of url for microformats or fallsback to meta tags. So when it saves the bookmark post to my GitHub repo, it includes an object with the title, author, etc of the linked post.
#
gRegor
It's a one-time snapshot right? so you don't have to fetch it each time you build
#
btrem
Got it. Sort of what I was imagining. I wonder if I can do something like that in 11ty.
#
[aciccarello]
You could definitely have 11ty fetch that as well. You'll probably want to set up some caching.
#
btrem
11ty does have a cache to obviate unnecessary fetches. But no obvious way to save the info.
#
btrem
I think 11ty automatically caches fetches, no?
#
[aciccarello]
I think so. I know it is an option.
#
[aciccarello]
But you're right that 11ty doesn't typically change your source files. You could also write a script to look through your front matter and update the files that you could run before your 11ty build.
#
btrem
That seems a bit dicey. :-o
#
[aciccarello]
Agreed 😅
#
[aciccarello]
I have done that before for migrations, but not as a regular thing.
#
btrem
I wonder if I should try to figure out micropub. The uphill climb does not seem appealing. But my site's source code already lives on GitHub. And I do want to move from a shared server (cpanel) to Netlify.
#
[aciccarello]
Feel free to check out my config. I have some extra logic in the function that structures my files that might be interesting. It's probably more complex than it needs to be, but being able to modify the objects makes it really flexible.

#
[aciccarello]
I also use the reference data to generate a simplified model for link previews
#
[aciccarello]
My system is probably more complex than necessary

The “catchup” tab is also borking
#
gRegor
I don't use slack often in this community, but when I do (browser), there's definitely a lag when it loads older posts, usually have to wait a few seconds before they pop in.
blacklight joined the channel
#
[Al_Abut]
Yeah, I'm used to a lag of a few seconds as a tradeoff for the UI. This is just plain stalled.
#
[Al_Abut]
The catchup tab in particular is super useful for me, otherwise I'd be declaring Slack bankruptcy a couple of times a week.
