this is something I'd like to figure out if it was possible to scrape and turn into a standard feed format of some kind: https://www.amctheatres.com/events/amc-screen-unseen

I have written a blog post about how my web reader supports IndieAuth and email-based sign in. I'd love a quick review from someone who knows IndieAuth well to make sure I'm not missing anything / that I haven't made any mistakes: https://jamesg.blog/drafts/indieauth-email-login-design

[preview] Artemis, the calm web reader I maintain, offers three methods of authentication: IndieAuth, email and password, and passkeys. IndieAuth is offered as a sign-in method because I want Artemis to allow people to use their domain names as their identitie...

This also has me thinking: should an account that only has a registered domain name have backup codes so that they can still access their account even if they can't access their domain?
#
[tantek]
What is account recovery?
#
Loqi
account recovery is a feature of most sites and applications that have an account feature, that allow you to sign-in even if/when you have forgotten your password, typically by sending a reset link to the email address associated with your account https://indieweb.org/account_recovery

Hetzner is great but it can be a pain. Today I am stuck alternating between the extremely rudimentary webftp and regularly being bounced out of a proper SFTP session and it is driving me somewhat nuts.

[KevinMarks]++ added. a good suggestion. native elements have far more functionality than we appreciate bound up in browsers. I read some front end blog or heard someone speak about a (theoretical, I think) interview question (I think in the last 9 months) about "how one would go about attempting to implement a checkbox" whose intent would be more of an appreciation of all the built in functionality of a humble native element.

I've got my mastodon account bridged to bsky, and I had a custom domain set. I'm trying to unset it, but I can't seem to change it to the previous pattern of <user>.<instance_domain>.ap.brid.gy. Is there an admin or someone who can take a look at my account to see why this is happening?
#
[aciccarello]
[snarfed] should be able to help
#
quaff
🙏 snarfed: my mastodon username is @quaff@thecanadian.social

so how does this work, if someone wants to mention my site?
#
aks
for mentioning someone elses site, i have this running on my server when i deploy the blog: https://github.com/remy/wm

#
aks
on my page i have "<link rel="webmention" href="https://webmention.io/akselmo.dev/webmention" />"
#
aks
so i guess they just use whatever way to send it, then this thing gets parsed and handled accordingly?
#
aks
or do i need to set up somekind of input field for others, like i've seen on some sites

I liked it! Also, yes, you can include a form, but not strictly required. But allows folks without infrastructure to run curl or an app to drop a link: https://lab.artlung.com/webmentions/#:~:text=HTML%20form%20version%20of%20the%20curl%20command

Does anyone here use Gittyup (git gui client)? I use it on Ubuntu. And ever since a recent update (a month ago or so), it has been very difficult to use. For example, there's no "close" button in the upper right corner; I can't use my mouse to change the window size; the ellipses buttons to show all branch pointers does nothing when clicked. I'm wondering if it's just me or is it everybody.
#
btrem
Hmm, probably that comment should have been in random. Sorry. I don't have #window accessible by default, but that's no excuse.

What is chat?
#
Loqi
chat is informal messaging offered by numerous services, a few of which interoperate or bridge with each other, and also a set of brainstorms for what an amazing indieweb friendly chat web app/site could do https://indieweb.org/chat

[aciccarello] following up on our convo at IWCSD - you might be interested to know that I'm rethinking my planned switch away from Astro to Eleventy. I was going to do it mainly for the native RSS support, but switching to microformats+Atom has reduced that driving need to more of a weak want.
#
[Al_Abut]
I might still do it sometime this year just for the template inheritance and better syntax, not sure.

Is there a name for like, things that one might instinctually use a search engine for, that you really should use a dedicated website or app for thats like semi legit at least?
#
[morgan]
Sometimes I find myself in a rush and want to do a timezone conversation and googling that topic is like a minefield of spammy feeling weird potential data mining click gathering websites with different implementations?
#
[morgan]
Its like I find myself relearning how to use a timezone converter every few weeks just out of like, quickness habit seeking. I really ought to settle on one
#
[aciccarello]
[Al_Abut] I think that makes sense. While 11ty does have an RSS plugin I wouldn't say that's it's best feature.
