[Murray] For a small personal tool, both techniques are fine, but also be aware that changing flow order from DOM order has a lot of accessibility concerns attached to it; in other words, if you start using Flex or Grid to rearrange items on the page, that only works for sighted people, everyone else still reads them in the original order
