Anybody use Zola? I can't get the page title to show up. https://codeberg.org/kolev/calebh-top/src/branch/main/templates/base.html#L6

Why is it that deploying something new is always one problem after another? lol. Fighting with getting this app to connect to the database correctly so I can share something with y'all!

CrowderSoup, you might not be surprised to learn that there are multiple ST:TNG fans here, who have even say, cosplayed with actual home sewn uniforms and comms badges. I'm not going to out the other(s) 😄
#
[tantek]
loooool ENGAGE as the sign-up button I can't even
#
CrowderSoup
Yes! I hoped there was. This has been SUPER fun to build and I’m building towards something honestly even cooler

This is very nice to use!
#
[KevinMarks]
it feels very fluid
#
CrowderSoup
[tantek]: thank you! aaronpk high praise from you! I've been using Monocle for years. It was my inspiration for PADD.
#
[KevinMarks]
marking read is explicit here, but implicit in monocle when I scroll past; also mark read does not update the sidebar count
#
CrowderSoup
Ah yes, still a few rough edges! This is why I wanted to share because it was at the point where I could no longer see the forrest for the trees haha
#
CrowderSoup
Thank you all for trying and thank you Kevin for your feedback!
#
[tantek]
I just pinned my PADD tab
#
CrowderSoup
[KevinMarks]: I'm thinking for "Mark as read" that I will add a setting for that. I like the explicitness of it. Scrolling past should be something you can turn on though! (and certainly counts always need to be updated)
#
[KevinMarks]
another small surprise - I expanded a post (A Cory Doctorow one, so long) then hit space expecting it to scroll down, and it un-expanded the post. Having a way to unexpand the post is good, but that one threw me. Also, you might want to animate the expand/contract as a cue.
#

[KevinMarks]++ for some very good QA right out of the gate!

[tantek]
[CrowderSoup] do you mind if I blog and direct link to PADD? Wanted to ask before throwing some traffic your way (and potentially a bunch of sign-ups, though gating on IndieAuth should mitigate that a bit)
#
CrowderSoup
I would love that! I can turn on auto-scaling and I just got paid yesterday ;P
#
[tantek]
that's very generous of you, and consider some form of tipping mechanism at least so folks can help with contributions
#
CrowderSoup
For sure! I just scaled up a bit and if the load stresses that out it'll give me the chance to learn how to set up a load balancer in digital ocean lol.
#
[tantek]
alrighty!
#
[KevinMarks]
I'm getting some 500 errors when I try to switch tabs in the sidebar
#
CrowderSoup
Could be that I just deployed. If it persists after a hard refresh I'd love some logs and screenshots!
#
CrowderSoup
[KevinMarks]: I'm currently working on a feature that would allow me to send broadcasts to users so I can notify y'all when I'm doing an update.
#
CrowderSoup
I probably would have finished that feature if I realized y'all would like it so much haha.
#
[KevinMarks]
that seems more stable; it might be worth doing a watch cursor on the sidebar click as there is a bit of a delay before it updates
#
[KevinMarks]
I am seeing console logs that say `htmx.org@2.0.4:1 The selector "#lcars-loading" on hx-indicator returned no matches!`
#
CrowderSoup
I'll look into that one! What browser are you using? I use a Chromium derivative (helium) and am not seeing those.
#
[KevinMarks]
chrome on mac
#
[KevinMarks]
thats when i click the sidebar tabs
#
CrowderSoup
Okay! I will try it in regular chrome!

For those of you using PADD: this will be the last time I let you know here that I'm going to deploy an update. This update gives me the ability to send you broadcasts in-app when I do that so I won't have to pollute the chat here.

I broke it lol, this is why I'm adding broadcasts because I'm still very much in the I'm going to be breaking things a lot
#

Fixed. Turns out you have to run migrations if you update database models.
#

so webmentions receivers tend to handle dupes nicely?

e.g. if I sent out webmentions for every link, after every edit, would it be rude/spammy

I have been thinking for a while about bridging h-feed with ICS. My use case is likely going to be in converting h-event feeds to ICS for events but I thought it would be fun to try with a regular h-feed.
#

The code formatting on https://jamesg.blog/h-feed-to-ics is somehow broken but it only takes a few indents to get the script working.

One consequence of this though is it reminded me I post the times on which a post was published. That's okay for me but I wonder if there are people who when thinking about it would prefer for published dates to be something less precise (i.e. just day of publication).

I really like the idea of being able to pipe the IndieWeb events feed (or _any_ events feed) to a calendar folks could subscribe to with whatever calendar app they prefer.
#

the indieweb events feed is already available as an ics

what is mf2 to ics
#
Loqi
ICS (AKA iCal or iCalendar file / feed) is a format for calendar files (a form of feed file) used by many programs such as Apple Calendar and Google Calendar, and can be used to share and subscribe to calendars across different systems https://indieweb.org/mf2_to_ics
#
gRegor
I've used my mf2 to icalendar php lib on my site and a couple others, working pretty smoothly from my tests
#
capjamesg
That's good to know! What do you use it for?
#
gRegor

Subscribe to Calendar (webcal) links for the stream of events: https://gregorlove.com/calendar/ This one shows some past events so they stick around a bit longer when I subscribe in gCal
#
gRegor
Honestly don't know how much/if at all those first ones get used. The subscribe link I like because it will update the ICS if I update anything in the event post.

This seemed relevant enough to post here. GitHub is allowing the ability to disable pull requests on a per repo basis, and some other options. Its not emphasized a lot in the main post about it https://github.com/orgs/community/discussions/187038 but it seems to be a reaction to places with bot spam PR attempts.
#
[morgan]
I just figured there was a non-zero chance someone here might make use of this feature, even just to prevent a slop PR. Really seems like a rough and tumble time out there
