Nothing like watching a script migrating 24 years of content to a new system! I think I may actually end up finishing this cutover tonight!
#
[cleverdevil]
I kicked off the migration last night with an agent and its been doing a bang-up job.

re: #indieweb home server

[tantek]
what is a home server
#

A home server is a machine you keep at home to host some of your services https://indieweb.org/home_server

are there advantages to setting up micropub, if I have my own backend for creating posts on my site?
#
mahboubine
as I understand it, micropub clients basically give you an interface to create posts on your own site
#
ulhar4409
i would say yes, unless maybe your posting style is particularly bespoke
#
ulhar4409
but it does support uploading html as content so
#

mahboubine The nice thing about Micropub is that you can use clients other people have made to create posts, if your site supports Micropub.
#
capjamesg
For example you could use https://indiebookclub.biz to record books you are reading.

#
mahboubine
oh, having specialised clients for different needs is quite interesting
#
mahboubine
I thought they were all just a textarea with a post button

What is a micropub client?
#
Loqi
Micropub clients are sites and client applications that publish to servers via Micropub https://indieweb.org/Micropub_client
#
capjamesg
There are a few examples in there. IA Writer seems to support Micropub for example.

probably the most complicated part of making your own mp client would be oauth, but you can sort of cheese your way out of that by allowing arbitrary tokens to be entered instead
#
ulhar4409
(i tend to authenticate with Quill first and then borrow the token from settings when i need a token like that)
#
mahboubine
Got it, thanks for the info
#
ulhar4409
i did prototype a micropub plugin for writemonkey recently, the main blocker for me on that is YAML handling lol
#
ulhar4409
IA writer was also tempting but I couldn't find a micropub option and the windows trial wasn't particularly appealing to me otherwise (unsure why)
