[social] [gRegorLove] I am storing in ISO8601, but when I built it 25+ years ago storing the date format as well to just query and post was far more efficient. I also have many templates and queries I would need to rewrite and the less than one second to process 2200 entries to take the ISO8601 and drop in in the date column and everything work was worth it.

WaddlesJr Hello everyone! I'm just learning about the indie web and am loving the concept! I'm a developer so I was thinking I'm going to develop my own website. Any recommendations on the best way to host the site?
#
[capjamesg] What is hosting?
#
Loqi Web hosting can be the primary regular cost in maintaining an IndieWeb site; this page lists several options from free on up depending on your publishing needs, like a static, shared, private, or dedicated server https://indieweb.org/hosting
#
[capjamesg] That page has a lot of information ^
#
btrem "divitis" has an entry in the wiktionary! https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/divitis :-)

gRegor I'm thinking about tinkering with a `rel` version of https://codeberg.org/robida/human.json to represent it in HTML. My first thought is `rel="self human"`
#
gRegor I don't see human on https://microformats.org/wiki/existing-rel-values didn't necessarily expect to, but is there any other existing one that might be more appropriate?

[Michael_Kupiet] [gRegorLove], I’ve been thinking of something similar. I think what you’re proposing is good. I wonder if something like rel=“vouch human” or rel=“other human” Is better for semantic consistency, or if it’s just needless complexity. I wonder if we should also have a warning, like rel=“vouch bot” or rel=“vouch spam” (or even rel=“warn bot” or “warn spam”.) This way reputation could be built by consensus.
#
[Michael_Kupiet] kind of “commend” and “warn” rel values, sort of an Internet-wide way of giving karma like ++ or -- on here. Lol, `<link rel=“updoot” href=“https://gregorlove.com”>`

[Murray] from -> #indieweb: I feel like I'm seeing something different RE: the text effect. For me, the whole site is duplicated and mirrored, so all of the text appears to the right of itself, backwards. That's being done by actually duplicating the whole site, hiding it from the AOM (nice!), and using a transform to mirror it. Then absolute positioned behind the rest of the content. Are other people seeing something different?
#
[Michael_Kupiet] [Murray] yes, I'm seeing that faint reflection, but the SVG filter produces an sort of aliased-looking, newsprint-like distortion. Here's with and without:
#
[Michael_Kupiet] As to vote links, never seen them before, but that seems more like letting page visitors vote? let me qualify this by saying I was just spitballing, this isn't something I've given much serious thought to, but, I was thinking more, "I, as the owner of this site, know and vouch for these people, by including this <link> in my site's code". Yeah, it's always going to be unreliable, but the idea to me is, in aggregate it's useful (to
#
[Michael_Kupiet] the whatever extent the whole idea is useful.) Some people will be fooled by bots or miscreants, others will deliberately post bad signals for nefarious reasons but a lot of "vouches", however it's done, from sites which themselves have a lot of "vouches" (from sites with a lot of "vouches"... etc...) would be a strong signal. You'd end up with a sort of "web of trust" that would be harder to game.
#
[Michael_Kupiet] Anyway, just kicking around ideas for fun. Not sure there's an actual need for any of this, just fun to think about.
#
[Michael_Kupiet] [Murray] I'm in Firefox.
#
[Michael_Kupiet] I'm on Mac, so maybe there's a difference there. Weird, though, yeah

[Michael_Kupiet] I've been reading up on that svg feDisplacementMap. CanIUse says it's compatible across all browsers. Again, weird. I wonder if there's something that turns off SVG filters.
