Oh wow these made me feel bad. I've focused so much on technicality and forgot to have a personality
#
gRegor
[Michael_Kupiet], with Bridgy Fed, `u-featured` is for the profile header image, so BF looks for it in the h-card. BF doesn't do anything with `u-featured` within individual entries afaik. Docs: https://fed.brid.gy/docs#web-profile
#
gRegor
If you want an image in the post itself, that's u-photo: https://fed.brid.gy/docs#web-image

[Michael_Kupiet]
[gRegorLove] thanks, I actually got it worked out. I don't know if this is the intended functionality or a glitch, but BF accepts `<link class="u-featured" itemprop="image" href="_[image url]_">` in the h-entry, as successfully used for this post: https://bsky.app/profile/michaelkupietz.com.web.brid.gy/post/3miac7sqrw6w2 I didn't go with `u-photo` because I saw https://github.com/microformats/h-entry/issues/24, which said that
#
[Michael_Kupiet]
`u-photo` means the title is considered a caption and the content is considered a description of the photo—generally, a photo or gallery post. INB4: the `itemprop` is there in the link because an answer on SO said `<link>` is only valid in `<body>` with an `itemprop`.

#
[tantek]
Kupietz try dropping the itemprop and seeing if http://validator.w3.org complains or not. I wouldn't trust anything SO says about what is "valid" or not "valid"
#
[Michael_Kupiet]
[tantek] Confirmed, http://validator.nu wants `itemprop`, `property`, or `rel` on the link element, although this may be a general requirement, not just for having a `link` in the body, I didn't test that. No complaint with `itemprop` included. Interestingly, it also throws an error for `<a hidden="from-humans">`, which I copied directly off of examples on https://fed.brid.gy/docs.

Pretty pleased with it as well! 🙂 There is even some kind of (Chromium-only) Easter Egg in it, about which I've written here: https://schepp.dev/posts/turning-css-carousels-into-a-theme-switcher/

I have just added Micropub to my website. My implementation only supports posts and notes right now, and doesn’t support image uploads, but it’s a start and enough for what I need!

Has anyone spent time thinking about how to design permalinks for bookmarks?
#
[capjamesg]
I am using UUIDs right now but they are kind of… ugly.
vhbelvadi joined the channel
#
junongx
How much control do you have over the bookmarked urls? Slug as metadata seems the obvious choice for this
vhbelvadi joined the channel
#
[capjamesg]
I have full control so I can design them however I want, but I’m not sure how yet.
#
[capjamesg]
`/bookmarks/<uuid>` isn’t particularly intuitive.
#
[capjamesg]
I also don’t want to include site author’s names in the URL.
[pfefferle] and vhbelvadi joined the channel
#
[tantek]
capjamesg, short answer, posts are posts. Bookmarks aren't special and don't deserve a special path segment. The rest is in /URL_design
#
[tantek]
UUID-- yes they're horribly user unfriendly
#
Loqi
UUID has -1 karma over the last year
#
[tantek]
[Michael_Kupiet] rel is better than the other

+1 for "posts are posts" I've been happy with my new URL design I launched where every post is the same kind of URL
#
aaronpk
Heh, "new", I launched the new site in 2015 which is somehow 11 years ago

Oooh that’s a good idea!

I like my md5's for bookmarks (likes under /like/ ) ... in terms of volatility I didn't account for maybe a canonical url changing so that's still a todo. I also don't want to put author identity/name or domain in the bookmark url. But also I'm not particularly sharing them as bookmarks I want to amplify.

URLs are all at `/blog/post/<slug>` though, because there was a time when I thought I might have `/blog/<type>/<slug>`.

Sounds like an easy migration if you wanted to
#
CrowderSoup
Yeah, just update the router (it's Django, so that's easy) and add a handler at the old route that does a redirect to the new URL

[capjamesg] my permalinks are all WordPress's post IDs... <https://d|https://>http://michaelkupietz.com/?p=12345 . Historically I've shuffled things around a little too often to rely on prettyurls, although I've calmed down a lot about that. The site redirects the ?p= permalinks to prettyurls. Anyone who wants to bookmark via the prettyurl is free to copy it out of the browser address bar; but it may not work forever. The ?p=
#

[Michael_Kupiet], Interesting, that bsky post looks like it might be a link preview from the OGP
#
gRegor
[snarfed], is BF to Bluesky using u-featured for link previews? If so I think the docs might need to be updated, I didn't see a mention of it.
#
NegateThis
Is anyone successfully using Bridgy Fed's new standard.site integration?
#
[Michael_Kupiet]
what is ogp
#
Loqi
The Open Graph protocol (OGP) is an open* standard developed and controlled by Facebook for expressing the primary subject of an HTML page in custom <meta> tags for the purpose of Facebook showing link previews; in practice only a couple are even sometimes necessary for that use-case, and you can use existing open standards instead https://indieweb.org/ogp
#
[Michael_Kupiet]
[Gregor], no, it's not, if I'm understanding you correctly. If I don't use the u-featured link, or don't format it correctly, I don't get the preview image.
#
[Michael_Kupiet]
In fact I had the u-featured link point to the 150x150 scaled-down thumbnail image, not the actual post featured image, and BSky picked up the scaled-down image.

Huh, I'm confused them. I don't seem to see in the BF logs where it found the featured image. https://fed.brid.gy/web/michaelkupietz.com

Yeah, I don't really know much about BF. I just wanted to be able to tag things and get them in #indieweb-stream so I set it up. But you can see, for instance https://michaelkupietz.com/bf-test-9/ which has the same featured image in full resolution, but when I posted it it passed the 150x150 thumbnail as `u-featured`, and the BlueSky post picked up that one instead of the featured image.
#
[Michael_Kupiet]
https://bsky.app/profile/michaelkupietz.com.web.brid.gy/post/3miaat6a5zda2 (Note that as the u-featured is dynamically generated on page display, it no longer references the 150x150 thumbnail, that's just the way it was when BF picked it up.)

yeah dan's thing (inlay etc) isn't really about data format or markup. it's about UI components, and a framework to combine them arbitrarily, and a package manager for publishing, forking, and remixing them
#
[snarfed]
[KevinMarks] lol yeah http://standard.site is crazy. they made lexicons for docs, and publications, and subscriptions, but punted on standardizing the actual doc contents 🤦‍♂️
#
[snarfed]
and yes! I was at the conference
#
[KevinMarks]
I have a lot of FOMO - Boris has always been good at convening the interesting people
#
[KevinMarks]
I think they need a rendered.content that is (constrained) HTML and a rendered.style that is CSS but they may all be too React-pilled
#
[KevinMarks]
Also they need version history. People edit longform posts.
#
[capjamesg]
What is the best way to get involved with the AT Proto community?
#
[KevinMarks]
We could help them preserve their weird facets as spans with classes mf2 style

#

[capjamesg] yes! read the docs, watch the conference talks, then join the discord, https://discord.gg/3srmDsHSZJ
#

Ooh I’ll keep my eyes on the conference talks. Thank you!!
#
[KevinMarks]
That was a lot of the FOMO, I haven't seen Amber and Brad and Erin in too long, but going to the London meetup I met a lot of the new young keen ones
#
[capjamesg]
Are there any talk in particular that are worth watching?
#
[KevinMarks]
Did you meet Aendra, snarfed?
#
[KevinMarks]
While I was at Ben's pfp
#
[snarfed]
yes! both last year and this year. she's great!
#
[snarfed]
[capjamesg] maybe start with last year's if they're up. "state of the protocol" from both years and "atproto ethos" are good. that one is also a post: https://atproto.com/articles/atproto-ethos
#
[KevinMarks]
Oops. While I was at Ben's pfp thing the http://standard.site chap was surprised by the flow of new posts because you had just turned bridgy on

I think there is a bit of HTML aversion because Paul Frazee had built a browser before atproto
bargaintreeflow joined the channel
#
[snarfed]
hah yes! we should have coordinated our http://standard.site launch better
#
[snarfed]
Paul is definitely averse to p2p, but I don't hear that they're averse to HTML, they love HTML and the web, and DNS, HTTP, websocket, JSON, etc
#
[snarfed]
they *love* the idea of "atmospheric web sites"
#
[snarfed]
lexicons are a data model and format, not a user presentation format or layer. they believe in HTML (among others) for that
