ZodiacalComet I've got a doubt about h-feeds. Its "u-url" link should point to the current page of a paginated feed? Or should it be the first page?

mahboubine how do you guys handle interactive elements in your blog content?
#
mahboubine for example I am using MDX right now which is a superset of markdown that lets you include react components in your posts
#
mahboubine I am trying to move off MDX and use something more lightweight and simple, akin to the old php days

mahboubine I use PHP already for work, but right now my budget limits me to static sites
#
mahboubine ProcessWire looks interesting, I'll dabble with it locally
#
mahboubine I just hate markdown with a passion, I don't know, I think its a mix of ugly syntax and bad editor support and the 20 different implementations that exist
#
mahboubine I am tempted to go with plain html
#
mahboubine nice, I am a fan of your site!

mahboubine especially your wife application, you took it down but i still found it on the internet archive ;)

mahboubine cool
#
mahboubine on a sidenote, sadly no one I know in real life has any presence on the web outside of social media
#
mahboubine sometimes I want to share cool stuff like that (that I add to my site) with them but I can't find a way to do so
#
mahboubine Awesome!! I love K-9
#
mahboubine in fact my blog's name "Structs and Company" is in reference to a short lived doctor who spinoff called K9 and Company

[Kupietz] @mahboubine. Soul brother. I loathe markdown with a deep abiding passion.

[Kupietz] Yes, the life of the markdown skeptic does feel like a lonely existence at times. 🙂 Happy to check out whatever you're working on, sure.
#
[Al_Abut] How about having a love/hate relationship with markdown? I go back and forth on it a lot.

mahboubine I've found my people!
#
[Kupietz] I have heard some people swing both ways.
#
[Al_Abut] I love me some wysiwyg but also love plain text and am forever torn 🤷
#
mahboubine its so weird because it almost feels "proprietary" when there is nothing proprietary about it in reality
#
[Kupietz] To me it just feels like an ancient kludge, like something somebody invent in 1982. C'mon, fellas, take that bold step forward into the mid-80s
#
[Al_Abut] Oh yeah, it's got WordPerfect vibes.
#
[Al_Abut] Or is that Wordstar?
#
[Al_Abut] The one with the little hieroglyphs for paragraph breaks and etc
#
mahboubine Never used either of them
#
[Kupietz] I remember that but not which one it was
#
[Al_Abut] They're from the Stone Age
#
[Kupietz] I wonder if in 15 years, markdown will have evolved to the point where it includes Clippy.
#
[Kupietz] "You appear to be working on an Obsidian document."
#
[Al_Abut] “And now we have fire and language. Please upgrade”
#
[Kupietz] lol
#
[social] WordPerfect had the paragraph ligatures, but it had opening and closing markup in the text what style could hang off of. Its structure was SGML compliant and with its print capabitlities it was fully compliant for styling.
#
[social] WordStar had open and close insertion points with the carat `^k` and such
#
[social] MS Word was and still is a hot mess.

[Kupietz] I occasionally have to dip into Windows Excel on screensharing with a client... I'm a very old hand at Mac Excel, I wrote an entire business accounting app in Excel 2.2 macro language, and still use Excel all the time... and I cannot figure out the UI on Windows.
#
[Kupietz] Word 5.1 on Mac was alright. After that they went crazy
#
[social] The underpinnings of Words are a magical mess. Most styles are at the end of a paragraph not flagged in line. When something in the layout or styling goes wrong goooood luck.
#
[Kupietz] Yep. Well familiar with it
#
[social] WordPress if something went wrong the reveal code would show SGML markup and you could remove and extra open underline element and you were back on your merry way.
#
[Kupietz] Yeah, it was weird on word, so much styling was stored in ¶
#
[Kupietz] You had to think about inline styles vs paragraph styles, which is funny because it makes retroactive sense after web development, but at the time...
#
[social] I really like early Excel on Mac in the late 80s / early 90s. I had built a lot of tracking systems for membership acquisition and it was easy to update and as long as you didn’t touch the macros it worked well.
#
[Kupietz] Oh, quote the opposite, the macros were fine. When they switch to VB I didn't keep up but before that I was really conversant in it
#
[Kupietz] quite the opposite for me, I mean
#
[Kupietz] My most-starred github repo is an excel file
#
[social] I mean my macros worked well and others could update the spreadsheet and things were solid. But, if someone tried to mess with the Macros it would fall apart.
#
[Kupietz] ah yeah
#
[social] Excel is the only Office product I’m fine using. Word still works in much the same way, but is horribly fragile. Too many long documents losing half or all of the text has happened to many times. Book submissions and some magazine submissions require Word. I write and work on it in something else (Pages or Markdown and convert to Word at the end, then open in Word to test and make sure the templates required are applied properly
#
[social] then ship it out).
#
[Kupietz] I pretty much do everything in HTML nowadays if I need any kind of word processing. BBEdit. My million resume versions are one giant resume with different css to hide or show different phrases and sections.
#
[Kupietz] If I need a PDF, I do HTML in BBEdit, open in browser, print to PDF
#
[Kupietz] For my own purposes I do a ton of writing in http://notes.app. At some point I will switch to Obsidian.

[social] I’ve written most of my notes and work in Markdown for 16 years. I can easily convert to HTML, Word, PDF, but also there are many different markdown apps (Brett Terpstra used to keep a large table of apps and capabilities and at one point it was over 90 apps (which I think were just for Apple OSes). I use Drafts, Obsidian. iA Writer, and BBEdit on my markdown notes. Prior to Obsidian I used NVAlt for markdown and text notes, it

[social] had tagging of the note in the Apple object’s notes. I looked at four other similar markdown opens for my notes that were similar to Obsidian, but had proprietary hooks that would make picking up any markdown note and using any of my other markdown apps was problematic because of those hooks. I moved my notes and writing to markdown to get a way from proprietary apps and platforms when my notes and writing weren’t really mine t
#
[social] what I want. Evernote had lock-in, Apple Notes aren’t cross platform outside of Apple. Scrivener (which I love as a writing tool for longer pieces can output markdown, but if the app crashes your documents are locked.
