ZodiacalComet For the brief time that I used it, I liked how ReStructuredText is made to be extended by defining directives to generate complex HTML structures. But its official API is a pain to work with, so in Markdown I stay with hacky injections for anything complex (e.g. zola's shortcodes).

[social] Yep. I hit that with Evernote where it had a bug that wouldn’t open the app and it was 2 weeks before there was a fix. No access to note. I’ve hit OneNote bugs, Scrivener (it was fixed quickly), and most apps with proprietary formats. Having a common open format document that any text editor can open and edit or markdown focussed editor is a nice switch.

[social] When NVAlt stopped opening I still could open my text and markdown files in 15 or more other apps and any text editor.

[social] Using Obsidian I just pointed it to my notes directory as where I expected it to monitor and connect documents and everything worked fine. But, iA Writer, Drafts, and about 15 other apps handle those files in the same manner. There are just files with text. No lock in nor lockout.

[Kupietz] It’s a jungle out there. I know that sounds like I’m being tongue in cheek, but I’m not. You always have to have your guard up. Most especially those who are in positions where they have something the stealth predators want.
