[tantek] hah what in the flying fruits & vegetables is going on here (move your cursor around) and has anyone made this kind of effect for their personal site: https://www.calacademy.org/events/planetarium-show/tiny-chef-big-impact-the-show-10
#
[Kupietz] OMG mouse trails... I'm having a flashback to the old days. https://ismile.neocities.org/history/90s does that with sparkles.
#
superkuh Not since the DHTML days. But I still do make sill pages with silly cursors in HTML+CSS only (no JS) http://superkuh.com/the-pieces-fit.html I don't know if cursor trails are possible without JS though.

[Kupietz] I just cleaned up my sitemap last night, wrapped everything in details elements so it's compact & usable on the js-not-required `/embed/` version of the page. The next step will be to stick it in my site headers in <noscript> tags to start the transition to my site being usable without javascript.

#
[aciccarello] I wonder how easy it would be to have specific page styles for when the page is embeded so I wouldn't need a separate page URL but still could hide things like the header/footer.
#
[aciccarello] I think I would need to be a JS-enabled feature to detect rendering in an iframe
#
[aciccarello] I have a static site and don't really want to render 2x as many pages.
#
[Kupietz] Ah. Yeah, not sure how you might get a static site to render two different ways without javascript or duplicate pages. Maybe if you can tell from the headers that it's embedded, you can have .htaccess redirect the path `/style.css` to a different file.
#
[Kupietz] That feels a little hinky to me, though.
#
[Kupietz] Alternatively, you could serve a simple stylesheet by default, and have javascript load a more complex one when the site is _not_ embedded.

[Kupietz] Annnnnnnnnnnd just showed a client in NJ my personal site via screenshare and discovered 3 things: 1.) My big honkin' home page loads acceptably fast from 3000 miles away, 2.) My site looks pretty bad on huge screens, 3.) My front page article titles are unreadable in Chrome in dark mode. Looks like I've got some CSS tweaks to make tonight.
#
Loqi It looks like we don't have a page for "darkmode" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "darkmode is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
Loqi dark mode is a feature of websites and apps that change the color scheme to be easier to read at night or in low light settings https://indieweb.org/dark_mode
#
[tantek] darkmode is /dark_mode
