work-suitable applications are possible with older methods, sometimes refined older methods

Attended LinuxFest northwest. Most of the stuff was about linux, but there was a cool web development talk in the lightning talks about someone using HTMX for a website and getting good speeds, emphasizing a design philsophy based around html partial updates for something that sounded like a UI admin dashboard sort of thing from a web application. Broad theme was rejecting the current JS paradigm and trying to show that

Hi all, question. I'm reading the indieauth spec and it says to validate an access token, we "should" send a post request to the token endpoint with the token parameter. However, tokens.indieauth.com says to use a GET request with the token in the header. Does anyone know if tokens.indieauth.com also supports the "by spec" method or is this really

a nonstandard impl? Or maybe I'm not reading close enough hehe. TIA.

tokens.indieauth.com is an older implementation, i don’t remember if it supports both actually

ack, thanks aaronpk

Checked the code - it does not support the POST-validation method. Is there another service to use for this so we can bootstrap our micropub development, or is it more of a roll your own thing nowadays?
#
simpleauthority
Hmm, actually, I'm thinking maybe I'll write my code such that it tries the POST request first, and on failure, fall back to the GET request. Although, I'm curious - was this in the spec / should it still be in the spec? In any case, thanks for the info!

What is Bubbles
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "Bubbles" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "Bubbles is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
[tantek]
Huh I thought we did
#
[tantek]
I know we discussed it recently. Anyway a warning for folks considering embedding it! https://gamedev.lgbt/@renkotsuban/116474981663758114

[preview] [Renkon] As suspected, Bubbles.town was vibecoded lol. I would be very careful adding the upvote embed to your site or the bookmarklet to your browser https://bubbles.town/faq #IndieWeb https://193eb646-6077-4968-9f13-271a9b475591.svc.edge.scw.cloud/media_attachments/files/116/474/975/370/595/968/original/ac3058cae1570c26.png

totally out of the loop. what is that for? looks like reddit a bit?
#
simpleauthority
ah, the faq covered it. Interesting idea, though

Whilst I respect the sentiment, jumping from "I used Claude Code during development" to "this is vibe coded, so clearly this person could have let anything in" is a bit of a reach. I'm not a huge fan of genAI, but lots of people use stuff like Claude Code for autocomplete and first-passes. Doesn't mean they haven't read/understood every line.

Perhaps people are reading "produce the source" a little more literally than I did

Still, it's a fair warning

I actually emailed the bubbles guy for some clarification. I felt it was strange that the project wasn't open source, considering its target audience. I also thought it was strange that the guy doesn't have his own website. Also, in the privacy policy, the way he talks about folks giving up the rights to their content as soon as they publish it in an RSS feed felt gross. Neat idea, though.

> folks giving up the rights to their content as soon as they publish it in an RSS feed -- alright, that's a bit unhinged.

I'm definitely being a bit hyperbolic, but that was the gist. (Huh, looks like it's changed since two days ago.

It's much gentler now, and is no longer using Clause to scrape all your data and categorize your posts.)

Can't hide from the wayback machine though, lol

I just read it as well. They say it's a small text classifier now. But, it not being open source makes me unable to take that as face value.
#
simpleauthority
It really is a nifty idea, but I won't use it
#
cobbland
Same. I've emailed asking for my blog to be removed already.

Man, that Brennan is so freakin prolific, haha! Thanks for the link. Will definitely give that a read.
#
cobbland
Well, that was a good read. I'm inclined to agree with Brennan's assessment, though I'll wait to have my blog included until the code has been open sourced. But also, don't RSS and Atom feed entries already have a category element? (I know atom does.) Why not just use that?

simpleauthority, yeah the current IndieAuth spec specifies POST for the token validation. There are a couple other token implementations that might be helpful for self hosting, https://indieweb.org/Mintoken and https://indieweb.org/gimme_a_token
