[capjamesg] [schmarty] I noticed that the #t= fragment changes when you skip to a new point in the audio file on https://martymcgui.re/2023/08/20/this-week-in-the-indieweb-audio-edition--august-12th---18th-2023/#t=345. I’m curious what inspired this.
#
[capjamesg] I know that YouTube has a discrete action for copying a link to a specific time stamp.

[KevinMarks] ↩️ Communicating a sparkline audibly could be a frequency sweep like a swanee whistle maybe.

[schmarty] capjamesg: i am very fond of media fragment URLs! https://indieweb.org/media_fragment
#
[schmarty] i don't remember a specific inspiration for having the URL update on pause/change. it makes sense for me personally - even if i want to go hunting for a share-with-timestamp feature like YouTube's, I need to pause and/or scrub the media to find the timestamp i want. by updating the URL, i can just share the URL with existing tools (copy/paste, browser share button, etc.) without needing extra UI.

[capjamesg] [schmarty]++ thanks for the context!
#
[capjamesg] I had never seen a site do that before so I was curious.
#
[capjamesg] If you haven’t written it up, it might be worth a blog post!
#
[capjamesg] On a different note I need to figure out licensing for pages on my playground. One interesting thing about GitHub is that it makes it so easy to add a license, in part because there are expectations of where a license is. I haven’t figured out the parallel for a static web page of arbitrary contents yet.
#
[capjamesg] I am thinking maybe of a fixed position button in the bottom right corner of a page. Maybe with the text “View source code license”
#
[capjamesg] That button could then open a dialog that lists the CC license I have chosen for the source code as well as noting all graphics are all rights reserved.
#
[capjamesg] (thinking out loud 😄)
#
[capjamesg] I am trying to make a component I can copy-paste on every page so it is consistent.
#
[capjamesg] My use case is that I have dozens of HTML files each with different code in https://playground.jamesg.blog/. I want to have a component I can use across pages to indicate their license.
#
[capjamesg] The license will probably be the same — CC0 for source, all rights reserved for images.
#
[capjamesg] Good question. In most cases the CSS and JS is inline for the site, but all linked CSS/JS should be included too.
#
[capjamesg] (I don’t embed external scripts on the playground, which makes matters clearer.)
#
[capjamesg] The use case is that I have had a few people reach out to ask if they can use code where the playground is its main home. Right now I say the requisite license in email responses to the question but I don’t actually have it stated on the page yet.
#
Loqi license is terms under which you are allowed to (re)use a piece of work; in the context of the IndieWeb, for source code such as in open source projects, or content, like the IndieWeb wiki itself which has a specific Copyright https://indieweb.org/license
#
[capjamesg] Good idea.
#
[capjamesg] [artlung] Have you thought about licensing for your lab? I see you link to the GitHub repository but that doesn’t have an attached license.
#
[capjamesg] This is roughly what I had in my head:

#
[capjamesg] The button would then toggle a dialog something like this:

#
[capjamesg] (very rough sketch!)

[tantek] license <<
{{t}} has Creative Commons licensed some pages on his site since at least 2001. Example of an index of pages, some of which are licensed: http://tantek.com/CSS/Examples/ and Example of a CC-licensed page: http://tantek.com/CSS/Examples/polygons.html #
Loqi ok, I added "

[capjamesg] I like the suggestion to shorten. I am likely going to have this as a sticky element in the bottom right corner of pages, so the less imposing, the better.
#
[capjamesg] Yeah. I have quite a few examples where the page scrolls, especially those where I am experimenting with prose formatting.

#
[capjamesg] I have made https://playground.jamesg.blog/licensing.html as a first version, using invoker commands to make the pop up work without JS.
#
[capjamesg] Oooh that’s good to know.
#
[capjamesg] Safari should support it: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Invoker_Commands_API
#
[capjamesg] Maybe I’m using an unsupported property.

[capjamesg] Can you do a rel=license that points to an ID on a page?
#
[capjamesg] All the text is visible in the page source code.
