Loqi [edit] A single-page application (SPA) is a web application or web site that fits on a single web page with the goal of providing a user experience similar to that of a desktop application https://indieweb.org/SPA
#
[schmarty] [edit] yeah service workers covers many big features like offline and caching. adactio has done some good posts on this, including one apparent pro-SPA argument about "i need smooth transitions between pages" is getting browser support that should also work across pages. https://adactio.com/tags/spas

[capjamesg] tantek It would be cool to have two maps: one Mercator and another more faithful to actual land area, so people could switch between the two.
#
[capjamesg] I’d bet a lot of people will not know the limits of Mercator.

[KevinMarks] Robinson is a decent compromise
#
[KevinMarks] Mercator expands the area of land in Antarctica to infinity

mxdocdes If you want to publish global maps somethink like the maplibre globe (https://maplibre.org/maplibre-gl-js/docs/examples/display-a-globe-with-a-vector-map/) view would be probably be a neutral implementation. The one tradeoff is you can't see the whole world in a single frame
#
mxdocdes Doesnt work for static map images obviously

[schmarty] [Den] - what's your site URL for the indiewebring?
#
[schmarty] also, folks with personal (or other) sites built on laravel, check yer dependencies 😬 https://snyk.io/de/blog/laravel-lang-supply-chain-advisory/

#
[Den] ↩️ Thanks! It’s https://denmchenry.comhttps://denmchenry.com. I wondered if it could have been that when I originally set it up I might have been using another URL, either https://denm.ch or https://denmch.com.
#
[Den] ↩️ Sorry. Not sure how I responded to the wrong thread.
#
[schmarty] ↩️ all good [Den]! slack threads don't work well with IndieWeb chat's bridging, which works across Slack, IRC, and Discord.
#
[schmarty] looking at the source for denmchenry[dot]com i see you've got authorization_endpoint and token_endpoint configured to use indieauth[dot]com for each. that looks correct to me. hmmmm! 🤔
#
[schmarty] unrelated, omg, your latin translation of the "i am an AI hater" post is incredible. [Den] ++
#
[Den] Authentication works everywhere else I’ve tried it, e.g., http://webmention.io.
#
[Den] Thanks! My big fear is that I’m rusty and another Latinist will find things to pick apart. I thought I found an error yesterday but I double-checked and used the right obscure construction.
#
[schmarty] it has been too long since i last worked through a sign-in error on the indiewebring, so forgive me as i re-work-out how this all works and where it may be tripping up 🙈
#
[schmarty] if i recall correctly, the missing issuer (iss) error happens when the webring gets an unexpected response from the token endpoint. i think http://webmention.io _only_ uses the authentication endpoint, so it won't make a request to the token endpoint, so the fact that it works may not be telling much.
#
[schmarty] i see that you have aperture set up, though, and that requires scopes. so if you're able to use a microsub client then your setup should be working.
#
[schmarty] (then again, aperture is maintained by aaronpk who also maintains indieauth[dot]com and is likely to have better compatibility across the various versions of indieauth in play 😅)

#
[Den] I set that up last night just seeing what else I could do, and was able to subscribe to a few things (including my site) and see them in Monocle and another client.
#
[Den] Sorry for the trouble. I’m fully prepared to discover that I did something wrong. I deleted some micropub-related stuff that I never got working.
#
[schmarty] [Den] i'm sorry you're running into an issue here! i think your setup looks correct. at least - that combination certainly _used to_ work great. aaronpk has been planning to deprecate indieauth[dot]com for some years, and IndieAuth (the specification) has received updates since then. i've tried to set up the indiewebring to be both forward- and backward-compatible, but i've also made a bit of a mess of it. 🫠
#
[schmarty] sadly i don't think i'll have a quick fix for this today, unless i suddenly remember something new! i'll have to set up a test site or two and turn on debugging to work through what it's doing. 😅

carrvo I made an RSS viewer that is pure client-side browser: https://turner.enemyterritory.org/user/carrvo/website/RSS-viewer.html
#
carrvo I tested it with my RSS and capjamesg's. Doesn't work with YouTube due to CORS though.
#
carrvo capjamesg: you said you wanted to see more apps like this 😄
#
[capjamesg] Very cool!

[Den] [schmarty] FYI, I set up a copy of benjifs’s serverless indieauth server and once I got that working, I ended up with the same iss error.

#
[schmarty] [Den] i'm not familiar with that one is it this? https://github.com/benjifs/indieauth
#
[Den] ↩️ Yes, that’s the one. I was able to log in to http://webmention.io but not the indieweb ring. I just wanted to let you know that I tried another indieauth server and got the same result if that helps whenever you can get around to this.
#
[schmarty] ↩️ i appreciate the heads-up! that's definitely telling us _something_! out of curiosity, does the benjifs setup support IndieAuth Server Metadata? https://indieauth.spec.indieweb.org/#indieauth-server-metadata
#
[schmarty] ↩️ i'm curious if this is pointing to an issue with the indiewebring and the legacy-style `authorization_endpoint` and `token_endpoint` config with `meta` tags.
#
[Den] ↩️ That’s something I’ll need to dig into. Thanks.
cotsuka joined the channel
#
[Den] ↩️ Problem solved! Thanks. I was missing the metadata reference, so it’s now working, and I reckon that’s just not part of http://indieauth.com, so this was a step in the right direction.
#
[schmarty] ↩️ hooray! i'm glad that worked! `indieauth-metadata` is part of the newer spec, which i make a point to support for the indiewebring. i'm still a bit embarrassed that the older style `meta` configuration doesn't seem to work. i've made a ticket to look into it in the future!
