WinnerWind [tantek]: on the subject of short domains, i think the rememberability of a domain is much more important than its brevity. a while ago i had the domain ww.in.d (on a local net) and i remember hating having to type that in
#
WinnerWind hence why im happy with winnerwind.in

[niklasfyi] How do you handle timezones on your blogs? Currently, my blog just shows UTC. But if I am using a micropub client that uses my local timezone I run into problems. For instance yesterday I posted something right after midnight which was related to the day I was posting on. But due to my blog showing UTC the date on the post on the blog was the day before. How do you do that? Decide on a Timezone for the blog? Show the actual timezone from
#
[niklasfyi] when it was posted?
#
WinnerWind i decided to keep it opinionated and decide what timezone the user should see (i.e. my own timezone, IST), and then add "IST" to the end of the time
#
[niklasfyi] Right now that makes more sense to me as well. I was just wondering how I would handle that if I ever was on vacation on the other side of the world 😄 But usually I travel in europe so ±1 h doesn't really matter
#
WinnerWind [niklasfyi]: if it helps, i encode the timezone in the date string itself (using the ISO format)
#
WinnerWind this way its both usable and computer readable
#
[niklasfyi] [aaronpk] That's interesting. Could be weird when you post in one timezone and then cross date lines and post again and the post shows up in the list before the other one 😄 (or am I confused here?)
#
[niklasfyi] Yep. I do ISO aswell. But I am using a SSG and save the files in YYYY/MM/DD folders. But there it might makes sense to stick to my "home" timezone for saving the files

[aciccarello] [niklasfyi] I have a static site. I render everything in UTC but have client-side JS re-write that to the local browser time.

Loqi [aciccarello]: [artlung] left you a message 2 days, 19 hours ago: to check out https://github.com/keithjgrant/local-micropub by [keithjgrant] when you get back from vacation
#
[aciccarello] Oh cool! Good to see Keith J Grant doing more micropub stuff
#
[aciccarello] I had been using Indiekit for some micropub testing in Omnibear but it's overkill for that use case. Might switch to this.

[aciccarello] This post is a good example of my site. The date in the slug is UTC but for US timezones it'll show a date of May 16th. https://www.ciccarello.me/posts/2026/05/17/kids-birding/

Loqi [preview] [Anthony Ciccarello] Thanks to my family for coming out this morning. It was fun sharing the birds with both the kids and adults. The indigo buntings and orioles were a big hit and it was really cool having the bald eagles to fly over for us. [aciccarello] On blog posts I don't show the time it was posted but I do still update the date
#
[aciccarello] The code for that is pretty simple. https://github.com/aciccarello/ciccarello.me/blob/aab264fa4271370cd89999ff04abc79b10edcda8/assets/js/common.js#L10-L27

[aciccarello] What's an in game jam?
#
tdrayson I store local wall-clock time plus the timezone it happened in, never UTC, and display it with the offset (Wed 1 Jul 2026, 9:30am +01:00) so the date in my permalink always matches the day I actually experienced.

[aciccarello] I'm trying to remember why I made my choice. I think some micropub clients don't pass the local timezone so I often only had UTC and no offset information.

[aciccarello] I also like the idea that if I were posting about a live event (like a sports game), someone could see it in their time and know at what point it was posted.

Loqi Timezones are names used to highlight regions on the globe that are used to define a uniform time for society's use (legal, finance, social) https://indieweb.org/timezone

courtneyr_dev Hey folks - I've been working on a WP plugin to support Post Kinds in block themes. I've gotten approval to submit it. :D
#
courtneyr_dev I did a security audit of the plugin, and its dependencies, and found something to disclose. Can you point me to the disclosure policy
#
courtneyr_dev thanks, headed over :)
