rnkn I just reimplemented my web platform's visitor stats using.... JSON!
#
rnkn stats are logged in a TSV file, then spat out to individual JSON files every hour, then the stats page is rendered from the JSON file

[niklasfyi] Switched my site die https://indiekey.id earlier this month. For anyone using OwnYourSwarm (or another client without refresh tokens) with IndieKey. Mine stopped posting on Oct 11 because the access token expired. I think IndieKey tokens top out at 7 days, and OwnYourSwarm can't get a new one without logging out and back in. Does anyone know of a longer lifetime, or refresh support coming? And how long is http://indieauth.com
#
[niklasfyi] going to stick around?

WinnerWind [artlung]++ beautiful website! i think some pages still use the old design though (https://artlung.com/about/). i didnt know such beautiful animations could be done with just css
#
WinnerWind [niklasfyi]: aaronpk manages indiekey.id if i am not mistaken, so I think he can help out (if he's up to it)
#
[artlung] Thanks WinnerWind! I treat the http://joecrawford.com domain different from my main site. I'm sneaking up on potential broader changes to http://artlung.com (my primary domain). I keep evolving it and sorting out how to have the different domains and subdomains interrelate.
#
WinnerWind [artlung]: fair enough! i'm struggling to maintain one domain so i can only imagine how you feel
#
offeringofpie [WinnerWind]: replied to your reply π not sure if it worked, but i hope it sent as a webmention reply for you
#
offeringofpie let me know so we can test π
#
WinnerWind offeringofpie: I got the webmention... but you sent the webmention reply as a reply to the webmention reply so I'm not sure how to display it on either website, haha
#
WinnerWind my webmention replies section is 'hidden' from the rest of the blog, maybe i could publicize it
#
WinnerWind my site won't generate immediately (next generation is when i upload some new content) but rest assured i got your mention!
#
offeringofpie cool, no worries if displaying replies to replies was not the intention on your side. was just experimenting with `in-reply-to` and sending it as webmention
#
WinnerWind i wonder if anyone has ever tried making reply threads
#
WinnerWind sounds like a herculean task
#
offeringofpie indeed
#
WinnerWind offeringofpie: i do display replies to replies automatically for all pages, it's just that the replies section *is* a bit hidden from the rest of the blog
#
WinnerWind maybe i could make a feeds page which will show this
#
offeringofpie yeah, I'm exploring how I could make this into an alternative to answering to the bluesky/mastodon post to show as in a curated replies section of my posts
#
offeringofpie now if only more people commented π
#
Loqi A reply chain (AKA reply thread) is a list of replies, and replies to those replies, displayed under the original post https://indieweb.org/reply-thread
#
WinnerWind [tantek]: good idea!
#
WinnerWind offeringofpie: its likely that people would comment if the process was easier. it took me ages to get my webmentions working right
#
WinnerWind offeringofpie: I see that you used the HTML version of the original message to display on your site. just a reminder but doing that COULD* allow for someone to sneak a script into your site
#
WinnerWind not usre how webmention.io handles it but i wouldn't, just to be safe
#
WinnerWind something something never trust html input
#
WinnerWind i keep forgetting the saying ._.
#
offeringofpie I agree! I'm only allowing a few tags to avoid any kind of injection
#
offeringofpie I remember writing my first LOLbomb
#
WinnerWind what is a LOLBomb?
#
Loqi It looks like we don't have a page for "LOLBomb" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "LOLBomb is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
WinnerWind :(
#
WinnerWind keep in mind in the grand scheme of things im VERY new to the internet (began really using the internet back in 2020)
#
offeringofpie sorry π imagine sending an attack to a server using SVG (which is XML basically). Inside it you can define an endless loop and cause parsing tools to run out of memory if they're not mitigating for cases like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billion_laughs_attack
#
offeringofpie I don't think this can be done anymore, and I don't endorse it
#
offeringofpie I should also rephrase, made a few as part of SecOps (Security Operations) training, didn't cause harm to any system on purpose.

[tantek] aciccarello, I shared your blog post with the dev behind https://interop-rank.fxdx.dev/ and they updated it this morning with both a way to share a unique URL to your results (live, so if you change your rankings, it gets updated), and a way to copy your rankings summary as md or html!

mjonesone Question on garden-to-garden backlinks: my Obsidian garden tool lets a note link [[@handle/Note]] into someone else's garden, and the target shows the backlink, but only via our own hub. Is Webmention the right way to make that work with any IndieWeb site, and is anyone already doing cross-garden backlinks that way?

gRegor [snarfed]: bridgy publish question for Bluesky: do hashtags need to be in the `e-content`? Wasn't sure if I was reading this issue correctly https://github.com/snarfed/bridgy/issues/1661
#
gRegor Here's a post I just published, hashtags are outside content and didn't go through. https://gregorlove.com/2026/10/new-meute-song/
#
gRegor Also a bridgy "convert" link for a webmention to that post returned 404: https://ap.brid.gy/convert/web/https://newsmast.community/users/music/statuses/117429834436610554/activity though the newsmast link works

#
[snarfed] hmm, like https://brid.gy/about#silo-content ? that's a bridgy classic thing, not bridgy fed
