rnkn got my web app to send login email (~magic links~) via non-blocking msmtp today instead of blocking perl
#
WinnerWind rnkn: msmtp is so good that i use it for my daily email needs now
#
rnkn WinnerWind: port 25? who needs it
#
WinnerWind oh i use msmtp to tell another mailserver to send mail for me, i dont use it to "host" an SMTP server
#
WinnerWind i find it better that way
#
WinnerWind also because having a ddns based mailserver sounds like a recipe for disaster

#
rnkn toying with the idea of making my web app admin area all monospace font
#
rnkn because monospace is cool
#
rnkn but it seems like a one-way ticket
#
rnkn can't change it then change back to sans-serif
#
WinnerWind rnkn: you can use a mix
#
rnkn WinnerWind: you maniac
#
WinnerWind i do this on my website, technically this is for text but
#
WinnerWind non-mono space font (heading) on a monospace font
#
rnkn looks cool
#
rnkn maybe... maybe...

#
WinnerWind you have to do it with purpose, though
#
WinnerWind rnkn: personally it helps to open inkscape (or if you'd prefer, a physical sketchbook) and sketch out how you want your interface to look before putting it in a real environment
#
WinnerWind user interfaces are an art
#
rnkn here's the current https://epoch.rnkn.xyz/downloads/blip-sans.png
#
rnkn here's mono https://epoch.rnkn.xyz/downloads/blip-mono.png
#
WinnerWind ah, i like this better as mono
#
WinnerWind for the header i personally would go with Peace Sans (super bold and pops really well with mon fonts)
#
WinnerWind peace sans on mono (by me)
#
rnkn WinnerWind: that is a nice font!
#
rnkn you made it?
#
WinnerWind rnkn: Peace sans? I wish!
#
WinnerWind i made the theme, not the font
#
rnkn ah I see

#
fafau06 can i add a passkey for indiekey that doesn't require me a security key? trying to add my phone but it keeps bothering me for one
#
fafau06 previously i had it on my phone but then i want to add my pc which i cant figure out how to, so i deleted & made a new acc in my pc thinking it'd be easier to just add my phone after the fact
#
WinnerWind fafau06: if your browser provides support for using a phone as a passkey (chrome on windows should, firefox on linux, in my experience, does not)
#
WinnerWind i actually use a KeePassXC database for my indiekey!
#
WinnerWind so much more convenient than anything i've ever used
#
[KevinMarks] even if you don't use a monospace font, using CSS `font-variant-numeric: tabular-nums;` will make the numeric ones line up right
#
fafau06 oh that's a neat trick
#
fafau06 aaronpk: yeah apparently it's just my windows that asked for stuff....
#
WinnerWind fafau06: you should go to the security section and pair a mobile device (windows 11)
#
WinnerWind i don't recall windows 10 supporting mobile passkeys but windows 11 does
#
WinnerWind over bluetooth, and with compatible mobile devices*

[artlung] Today's dev longevity interesting interaction: a 7 year old comment I made on a 13 year old github issue netted me information on someone working on a tool to view files from a 15+ year old drawing app. https://github.com/sprang/Brushes/issues/6

[artlung] I was watching the Hockney documentary and thought *man that app he's drawing with sure looks a lot like Brushes dot app* - well, funny story: https://reflexarc.co.uk/projects/david-hockney
