[Al_Abut]Hey [aaronpk]! Just ran into a UX with one of the events and it made me wonder about meetable - is it possible to set the same recurring link for a zoom meeting? Whether one we pass in ourselves or just keep reusing the one created by meetable.
[Al_Abut]If you’re curious, the UX issue is I made an event recurring in my calendar and then couldn’t join the zoom because it was using an old expired link, which wasn’t obvious for a good couple of minutes and led to some forehead slapping when I figured it out 😆
aaronpke.g. an organizer slowly loses interest in hosting the event, but doesn't fully hand off running the event, and then isn't around to delete the event, then eventually there's just this weekly event on the calendar nobody actually hosts
aaronpkthere are actual examples of this on the openid foundation calendar right now, for working groups that have gone stale, but their weekly calls are still on the main calendar
[artlung]I understand the UX wish but definitely that calendar rot thing stinks a lot. As an adhocracy we don't commit to an absolutely recurring event. Each new entry on the calendar is an individual making an affirmative decision to host, not an org deciding on an event. (And by the way, thanks to all the hosts who are diligent about doing so! Notably James, Mark, David). Events are hard work even if they are lightweight.
aaronpk100% agreed, that's a great framing. the fact that an event exists on the calendar means there was an actual person who expressed their intent to host that particular event. that property is lost when the software supports recurring events
[Al_Abut]The reason I’m still picking at it is not just because it’s a UX issue in general, but also because my hunch is that this is one of those “silent fails” that would strike the initial curious and/or laypeople more often. Which sucks for groups like HWC that are public-facing advocacy that live on new participation.
[tantek]interesting, because I've seen more of the opposite, that is, recurring events causing silent fails, e.g. across nearly every DST change (depending on which country you're in!)
aaronpksubscribing to the calendar feed on the site is the solution again, rather than someone making their own local recurring copy of the meeting on their calendar
