what is feed reader
#
Loqi
A feed reader (sometimes called an RSS reader) is an application (local or on the web) subscribes to feeds (often limited to Atom or RSS) and presents posts from them in an interface for reading, typically without any way to respond, in contrast to an interactive social reader https://indieweb.org/feed-reader

what is life happens
#
Loqi
life happens is a summary expression of numerous things that people experience in their actual physical lives that suddenly take higher priority than nearly anything else (like participation in volunteer-based communities), and the IndieWeb community is here to acknowledge, accept, and be supportive of community members experiencing this https://indieweb.org/life_happens

[aaronpk] I can chime in with UX advice for meetable if you want to make recurring events happen and reduce the pain of constantly cloning a new one for weekly hangouts like HWC, but it sounds like you’re on the fence about doing it at all? Am I reading that correctly?
#
[Al_Abut]
You’d probably want to talk to [capjamesg], [marksuth] or anyone else that sets them up on a regular basis.
#
aaronpk
I'm half way through implementing what I described in that issue now

[tantek]
Interesting idea aaronpk. I like that sort of "rolling forward" approach but not into infinity
#
[tantek]
Worth experimenting with to see how it feels. That sort of future time window limitation may help mitigate the concerns I brought up

aaronpk One point of friction for me is that I need to set the date in two different places: the Etherpad slug and on the page itself.
#
capjamesg
I occasionally mess up the Etherpad one which causes a bit of confusion at the start of a meeting.
#
capjamesg
I don't mind cloning the events but it would be great if there was something like an "easy clone" which cloned everything, let me set a new date, and hid all the other fields behind a details/summary tag so I could edit them if I needed to.

since the etherpads are temporary anyway, what about using a persistent etherpad page every week?
#
capjamesg
I'm not sure that's preferable for either me the organiser or potential participants.
#
capjamesg
Someone may see an Etherpad link in a future event that's filled out because we forgot to remove the text after the event and wonder if they missed it.
#
capjamesg
The Etherpad thing isn't a huge deal but it's certainly a feature I'd appreciate so I don't need to enter dates twice (once for the actual event date, second for the Etherpad).
#
aaronpk
i don't understand the feature request
#
capjamesg
For HWC Europe, I use the Clone Event feature to create a new event. When I fill out the new event, I occasionally forget to change the Etherpad, or mis-type the date in the Etherpad. I would like if the Etherpad was automatically added.
#
capjamesg
Again it's not a huge deal but the fewer things I have to fill out, the better.
#
aaronpk
how would i automatically add the etherpad link?
#
capjamesg
Hm, yeah. That would be tricky to do without setting a random URL string which I don't love.

i suppose a URL template on the event template would work, you could enter something like "etherpad.indieweb.org/%Y-%m-%d" and it'd replace those when it creates an occurrence
#
[tantek]
Could the clone operation look for other occurrences of the ISO date in all fields of the source event and update them?
#
aaronpk
maybe if it's specifically looking for 2025-11-20 format, but that seems fragile and more limiting
#
[tantek]
Nah, reinforce use of the ISO date. I'd say it's less work and less fragile than asking people to make templates with % fu
#
[tantek]
ISO dates are more international friendly, and many (most?) of our events have an international audience so it's correct to reinforce that in the UI
#
aaronpk
i was more thinking like being able to replace other date formats in the text like "November"
#
capjamesg
That would be cool aaronpk!
#
[tantek]
I would start with the specific use-case requested, Etherpad URLs, which is why I suggested only replacing/updating ISO dates. Generalizing beyond that without a specific use-case is scope creep IMO (whether cool or not0
#
[tantek]
None of the next 5 events on events.indieweb has the text "November" in their description etc, so that's not a specific use-case. that's a hypothetical
