[Al_Abut] Yeah exactly, just like Berlin!
#
[Al_Abut] It's probably a small sample size compared to, you know, the entire internet 😆 but I feel like maybe we've tapped into a rich vein. There's something about photos where people feel as passionately as they do about creating good writing or video shorts, while somehow being more approachable to actually create than those other mediums?
#
[Al_Abut] And that combo of passion and approachability carries more people over the activation energy into making sites to show off those pics.
#
[Al_Abut] I don't know if I'm describing it well or even seeing something that's real, it just feels like something about it is unique compared to words or motion.

[Al_Abut] I think so too, the more I think about it. I captured a voice memo while driving to the grocery store just now and I came up with something to describe the approachability of photos. Or rather how intimidating other mediums can be.
#
[Al_Abut] For a lot of people, the idea of making a video gives them the same kind of stage fright as public speaking and writing isn't any better because it feels like a pop quiz in school.
#
[Al_Abut] Of course there are the outliers that like to ham it up with an audience and liked writing essays for class but nowhere near the number of people that now use the camera in their pocket.
#
[Al_Abut] Ok, I'm doing that thing where I'm pouring an essay into Slack. Time to blog instead ;)

[Al_Abut] Thanks [gRegorLove], it was great! Looks like there's definitely going to be some more too.

[jeremycherfas] I just want to echo everything about the photo pop-up. It was really interesting and fun and I very much regret having to leave early, but dinner was ready. [Al_Abut]++
#
[Al_Abut] Glad you enjoyed it [jeremycherfas]! You had some great insights, I'm looking forward to trying the rating app you recommended. And there was some other link you mentioned that I can't remember now but you can still add it to the wiki page for the notes:

GWG- I still wanted to explore an IWC online with timezone handoff

[Al_Abut] Agreed - the relay baton for an all day thing worked great for Create Day! I’d be curious to see if there’s that much demand for an all-day thing every month or if it was just the first-of-its-kind excitement energy, but I’m down to experiment and find out.
#
[Al_Abut] Like, we could split it up into a mini camp: mornings for talking things out, afternoon for hacking/demos/etc.
#
[Al_Abut] My instinct with these kinds of things is usually to avoid scope creep early on. Start small - 90 minutes one Sunday a month - and then let demand build from there. But there’s also a case to be made for the “ride the dragon” approach and seeing how heigh the ceiling is for this enthusiasm. I could go either way.

AnaOlivia Hello everyone! Maybe I missed it during the first 40 minutes of the pop-up, but did anyone shared their work during? I had prepared a few photos I will be uploading for future blog posts.
#
AnaOlivia The mini-camp idea sounds interesting! Once there is momentum, a mini photo challenge before the next pop-up would be nice. That'll help with motivation to shoot.
