[Al_Abut] I stole some language from my cycling events - meet at 11, roll at 11:15 - to make clear that there’s a bit of a buffer for anyone running late.

[Al_Abut] I could be overthinking it but a more optimal solution would be to able to drop my phone number so anyone could text me, in a way where the web scrapers don’t hit it up. [tantek] and anyone else that does in-person meetups these days - what’s the social norm there? DM’s on a preferred service like Slack? Some kind of ph# obfuscation? Or just shrug and roll with it.

[Al_Abut] Cycling doesn’t have a great solution for this either. The critical mass app is anonymous location tracking but the lag is so bad that nobody uses it.

[Al_Abut] No it’s cool, I can full-time monitor. I’ve taken a million pics at Balboa Park and I’ll be focused on any guests having a good time, making sure they show up, handing out any tips for photos, etc.

[Al_Abut] Nah, I’ll just bring a battery and keep my phone plugged in for coordination.

[Al_Abut] I like your simplest possible solution and updated the description: “Meet at 11 at the Bea Evenson Fountain and we’ll roll out at 11:15. Don’t stress if you end up later than that because of parking or whatever - we’ll be monitoring the #indieweb-events channel in chat for any stragglers, just hit us up there!”
