My use was borne out of Twitter’s character limit

[davidmead] I've already been bitten twice using URL shorterners that disappeared, so I'm a bit averse to using them. I was using, cli.gs, and then tr.im, and although bit.ly looks like it's sticking around, I'm hesitant using it for personal links.

I was looking into running my own, there's a bunch of good open-source ones out there. but the potential for link rot concerns me.
#
[kevinmarks]
I bagged some good bit.ly URLs early on and so I have j.mp/k for my old blog and j.mp/DA for the Douglas Adams article I quote a lot.
#
[voss]
[kevinmarks] that's some good short urls alright πŸ™‚

Any tips for integrating "recommended" stories from pocket with known?
#
[svandragt]
either as links or bookmarks welcome advice on that also
#
[jgmac1106]
Yes bookmark using Known.. And you no longer need pocket
#
[jgmac1106]
But does pocket "recommended" have a feed? Maybe something you add to your reader?
#
[svandragt]
Ah my workflow is: I scroll through my feeds and send interesting stories to pocket to read later. If I do read it with pocket and I like the story I recommend it. There seems to be no feed but there's an API and zapier integration though. I guess it's as much a workflow question as it is technical
#
[jgmac1106]
You could do it then
#
[jgmac1106]
But encourage you to think about doing it from your own Domain first bookmark post>rss>iftt>pocket

Ok will do that πŸ‘ makes sense
#
[jgmac1106]
Are you using a social reader? Can bookmark to Known directly from Indigenous/Aperture
#
[svandragt]
I'm using Inigenous and the bookmarklet. Haven't checked out aperture, I guess a missing piece of the puzzle πŸ˜ƒ
#
[svandragt]
Ah I got stuck when I had to add the html to the theme as I hadn't bothered logging in to my linode
#
[jgmac1106]
You mean the header to make aperture work? Just use the custom javascript plugin.. Allows you to customize header and footer with html or javascript
#
[svandragt]
Sorry for the questions. There's no link to that from either the plugin list in known or from the documentation plugins page (http://docs.withknown.com/en/latest/plugins/community/) is it this one https://github.com/idno/FooterJS?
#
[jgmac1106]
Maybe let me go to sign and check
#
[jgmac1106]
Custom Javascript is plugin. Should come installed but not enabled
#
[jgmac1106]
You were correct repo name and plugin name don't match. Confused me
#
[svandragt]
yeah got it working now with that plugin πŸ™‚ thanks for your help πŸ™‚
#
[jgmac1106]
I thought it was core will ask Marcus if it was stripped
#
[jgmac1106]
No thank you, need to capture that step on wiki
#
[svandragt]
Would be good to have in core especially with the blocker in the flow.
#
[jgmac1106]
Your welcome to update the wiki if you joined. I hVe to get my class tutorials launched... Release date and launch date should never be the same
#
[jgmac1106]
We hVe been discussing how plugins work, long term + and - in open source, and the UI of the plugin screen
#
[jgmac1106]
What is aperture?
#
[jgmac1106]
@svndragt I haven't done it in awhile. Could you add a section below plugins section:
#
[jgmac1106]
===Using with Known=== and add what you did? If you don't wiki maybe a blog post and we can translate?
#
[svandragt]
