Hello world
#
[kiai]
Anyone around? Trying to upgrade from 0.9 and wonder what version to upgrade to before upgrading to the latest. Or should I just make a fresh install and import posts?
#
[kiai]
Never mind. Found instructions.

Well, the instructions didn't work. Tried copying the config.ini file into the configuration directory but that didn't work. Anyone have any ideas upgrading from 0.9.9 to 1.2.2?

I'm no expert, but Composer is definitely involved.

Where are the instructions you followed, [kiai]

At one point, when using Dreamhost's WebFTP, I tried extracting 1.2.2 and it would not extract all files. I tried to reverse it by extracting 0.9.9 again (instead of using the backup), I did get the set up button before extraction was complete.

Composer is definitely needed to pull in external dependencies for versions above 0.9.9. I think Marcus Povey, one of the primary developers, has a repository of complete builds that don't need composer and should likely work with those instructions [kiai]. Try: https://www.marcus-povey.co.uk/known/ https://withknown.marcus-povey.co.uk/ (Note: I haven't tried this myself.)

Known (née Idno, sometimes called withknown) is a self publishing and social learning platform. Known gives you full control. You can use a hosted service or install it on your own server and extend it to meet your needs. The core Known platform ...

Just make sure you've got back ups of everything just in case.
#
[kiai]
Thanks [chrisaldrich] and [jeremycherfas]! Will try.
#
[chrisaldrich]
Let us know how it goes. Maybe write up your experience. I know there are many others who would like a mini instruction manual or outline for doing this.
#
[chrisaldrich]
I don't have the time to set up and figure out composer myself, so I haven't upgraded for this particular reason.
#
[kiai]
Well, looks like I have to start from scratch anyway. My SQL tables are gone. No idea what happened. My backup is also gone. There was an insecure connection at one point last night... ugh. It was working before I went to sleep.
#
[kiai]
And of course Windows decided to reboot on its own so I lost all my command prompt history too. 😦
#
[kiai]
omg i just found an automatically created sql backup
#
[chrisaldrich]
that's always a pleasant surprise. Sometimes hosting companies will have backups too if you ask.
#
[kiai]
There's a reason I use Dreamhost!
#
[kiai]
Dreamhost also saved a record of my bash activity. Haven't looked at it, but it was an hour before the sql backup, and I went to bed just after the last bash command.

[kiai]
Apparently, I was a victim of Bobby Tables
#
[kiai]
Exactly what I was trying to guard against by upgrading Known. Upgrading would have helped, right?

If I find an error in Known, do I comment on Github?

Is there any comment moderation in Known yet?
#
[chrisaldrich]
Not that I'm aware of. It's either there or it's deleted. No option to hide or hold in moderation to be approved after posting, though that would be nice to have.
#
[kiai]
Thanks. I'm going to put my site on WordPress until Known has moderation. I'm just not on the site enough to moderate comments.

Apparently, the SQL-injection on my database last night knocked out a whole server of websites.
#
[kiai]
At least it was the middle of the night.
