re: http://twtr.io/1VLZnAQjB1M i've thought about trying to make a thing where if someone's tweet mentioning indieweb gets a few "likes" from other /irc-people then those accounts would RT it
#
Loqi
[@martijnvdven] I wish for a way to get @indiewebcamp, @IndieWebCampUK, @IndieWebCampDE, et al. to retweet and spread the word on Homebrew Website Clubs.
#
Zegnat
Interesting
#
Zegnat
I would totally see people just coming here into -meta and asking for the likes though, especially for things like HWC announcements that aren’t likely to randomly get many likes
#
aaronpk
is that bad tho?
#
Zegnat
I am … not sure? Maybe not
#
sknebel
I have seen retweet-bots for that
#
sknebel
you DM it a tweet, it retweets it
#
Zegnat
I am just trying to figure out how many likes are good if you want to enable something like HWC coverage
#
aaronpk
the way I see it is right now there's only a handful of individuals who have access to those accounts at all, so this would be a way to open it up to more people
#
sknebel
(which reminds me, have to look into/prepare HWC Berlin advertising, end of break is near
#
Zegnat
I am totally pro opening it up, aaronpk!
#
Zegnat
sknebel, I didn’t check the wiki yet. Will it be wednesdays or thursdays?
#
sknebel
thursdays
#
Zegnat
Nice, maybe some of the Berlin gang will start calling in on Wednesdays then :D
#
sknebel
yeah. I could have invited the others for today, did not think about that ;)
#
aaronpk
well at the very least i could just make an IRC command here that RTs things
#
Zegnat
Probably limit that to +v?
#
aaronpk
i was thinking that yeah
#
aaronpk
speaking of which why am I mot +v
#
Zegnat
Loqi doesn’t like you anymore?

Ooh. New (to me) channel.
#
aaronpk
oh! yeah we launched this in July for all the community organizing chat
#
[barryf]
Makes sense.
#
[barryf]
So I built a little site for HWC London and set up webmention.io with it. All seemed to work nicely but recent RSVP webmentions aren't appearing in the dashboard e.g. https://hwclondon.co.uk/20170823

#
[barryf]
Are they being queued or erroring in some way?
# j12t joined the channel
#
aaronpk
[barryf] do you have an example of an RSVP url you think should be showing up?
#
aaronpk
[barryf]: looks like your event is saying the webmention endpoint is webmention.herokuapp.com so people are sending webmentions there! not to webmention.io
#
[barryf]
You're right! I had a little play with that earlier but I don't think voxpelli supports RSVPs yet. I'll switch back and try again.
#
voxpelli
That's correct, I don't parse RSVP yet
#
[barryf]
Thanks voxpelli. Right, fresh webmention sent to webmention.io from my RSVP.
#
Loqi
[voxpelli] #22 Add support for RSVP:s
#
[barryf]
(thumbs-up'd)
#
[barryf]
OK. I think it must be my site. I re-sent Calum's and it now appears.
#
[barryf]
Hmm. I wonder why my RSVP isn't showing up then.
#
aaronpk
i just sent one for you and it says it's still being processed https://webmention.io/hwclondon.co.uk/webmention/AVRMOvBcto2kBgu0yvjI
#
aaronpk
it seems like this is taking longer than it should
#
Zegnat
Webserver clogged again? (I.e. do you know why it was stuck before, aaronpk?)
#
aaronpk
ugh i'm getting tired of this invisible background job processing
#
[barryf]
Sorry to be a pain, aaronpk. Feeling guilty!
#
[barryf]
btw I use sidekiq for background processing. It gives you a nice web interface for free e.g. https://hub.barryfrost.com/sidekiq/
#
[barryf]
No pressure on the debugging. Would be great to diagnose it but not to worry.
#
aaronpk
yeah I usually use something like that. in PHP I use an even simpler queuing mechanism

Zegnat: goal for in 2 weeks: have mumble prepared? :/
#
aaronpk
the audio on mumble is way better than on this video chat
#
sknebel
yeah, today is bad
#
aaronpk
i wonder if there's a way to make a small app that takes a webcam picture once a second and push it somewhere. i feel like even just that amount of "video" would be good enough
#
sknebel
interesting idea
#
Zegnat
That would be interesting.
#
Zegnat
And yes to Mumble, sknebel. We just need to take an afternoon and get that set-up.
#
aaronpk
i know enough to make that work on osx with a little electron app, but no idea how it would work on linux
#
sknebel
why not a webpage?
#
aaronpk
oh yeah i guess that would work lol
#
aaronpk
i forgot that web pages have camera access now
#
aaronpk
even though we were just doing that
#
sknebel
(we also found a mumble-web-gateway, will try to set that up as fallback for ppl without the client)
#
Zegnat
That gateway wasn’t even half bad
#
sknebel
yes, surprisingly good for what it does
#
Zegnat
Just too bad you need some extra stuff running on the Mumble server itself. So it doesn’t go well with rented servers and the like. Have to run your own :(
#
sknebel
(mumble protocol implemented in JS, sent to server via websocket ;))
#
sknebel
you wanted a VPS anyways :P
#
Zegnat
Very true!
#
Zegnat
Maybe we can roll that into 1 ;)
#
sknebel
(I can host it as well, no problem)
#
Zegnat
We’ll do some tests, let me know when you have time. I should be around most of the time except for tuesdays.
#
sknebel
let's try one of the weekends
#
sknebel
(and we didn't cover "Planning to talk @micropubrocks, #hwc organising" today )
#
sknebel
(unless yo uwant to continue that later ;))
#
Zegnat
Yeah, I was expecting sebsel to show and talk micropub. jeremy also seemed interested in automating posting. We just never got to it.
#
Zegnat
But I don’t think anyone actually missed it

#

[barryf] i have literally no idea why that webmention is still "currently being processed" by webmention.io
#
aaronpk
oh wait, i see in the database it was marked as deleeted
#
aaronpk
i don't know why

Regarding the IndieWiki: Having serveral options to reach a goal with Indieweb building block isn't always a good thing. It is not ever clear what the differences might be between those different options. The description might not be written well enough.
#
sketchess
A User might not try every option out, out a several reason. May it be patient or others. It might be hard to make a choice or suggest a solution, if the goal is unclear.
#
sketchess
It was discussed if tutorials might be a help, targeting certain cases. A special Wiki section, a external website for teaching purposes or something completely else. Following link was shared: https://calumryan.github.io/indieweb/
# rvid joined the channel
#
Zegnat
Maybe now that virtual HWC is regular, I will remember to take notes during them
#
sketchess
It was discussed which effort it might will take to get non-developers into Indieweb. To guide them and make them understand. The Indieweb principles were questioned. It might seems conflicting that on the one hand only things are worth it to get build which are beeing used by oneselfe. But on the other hand it would seem certain users would be left out, if be followed strict. A developer does not rely on
#
sketchess
very basics, which nontheless are required.
#
sketchess
The problem was mentioned that a experienced developer does not remember how it's like to just get started. A beginners guid made by beginners might be a solution.
#
sketchess
It remains unclear what Indieweb and IndieWiki were intended to be when it first was created, nor what it might come to be in the future. Currently it is a collection of thoughts, notes, meeting protocols and so on. A corkboard if you like.
#
sketchess
Regarding the Indieweb users:
#
sketchess
They come in several shapes and sizes. Interessting seem also users which are either use the IndieWiki nor the IRC at all, but still playing a role some sort of. keyword: e.g. bloggers
#
sketchess
.... People who try out a little, write about, but are not really envolved in anything nor have a full understanding.

aaronpk, does /this-week include wiki pages that were changed from a redirect to their own content as "new"? Could it?
# [miklb] joined the channel
# [kevinmarks] joined the channel
#

otherwise such new pages get "missed" since new redirects do not get reported

aaronpk, did we ever discuss having Loqi also recognize h-cite?
#
tantek
as well as h-entry
#
tantek
since comment markup (rightfully I think) uses h-cite on comments made elsewhere (where the h-entry lives elsewhere) https://indieweb.org/comments-presentation#How_to_markup
#
tantek
the rest should map h-cite -> h-entry pretty close to 1:1 - author, content
#
aaronpk
hm does it not already do that?
#
tantek
good question - looking for an example to try in #indieweb-wordpress
