tantek: since you asked, I found this page less than helpful as I've tried to backport all my old tweets and properly mark up retweets with u-repost-of: https://indieweb.org/repost

There's quite a few microformats classes in the second example, which I could see being confusing to someone not familiar with them.
#
skippy
i generally like to see useful building blocks that don't presume deep familiarity. "Here's the absolute most basic way to do this." "Here's how you can add one simple addition to the previous example."

I'm not a front end developer by trade, so microformats and nested markup is daunting to me to begin with.
#
skippy
the list of indieweb examples is frustrating, because they're all complex. and all sufficiently more advanced (and better looking) than anything I can cook up myself, so it's a little demoralizing.
#
gRegorLove
The first under how-to publish is about the most minimal example
#
gRegorLove
step-by-step additions is a good idea
#
gRegorLove
Perhaps some real URLs in that example, text "Reposted [url]" and then an inline preview of how it will appear on a page.

skippy: having just looked over all the post kind examples the other day I can totally agree with you
#
grantcodes
There should be a standardized format for them all. Something like: what it's for, html / microformats basic example, maybe parsed mf2, extra thoughts and then examples
#
gRegorLove
There's some different use-cases, too. Like if you're just archiving old retweets, you may not need microformats, strictly speaking.
#
gRegorLove
If you want to publish new reposts on your site and syndicate them to Twitter as retweets, then you want u-repost-of, since Bridgy uses that.
#
gRegorLove
"Who/what is consuming this?" is a good question to ask regarding microformats.
#

(Presumed using Bridgy Publish ^^. There's other ways of course)

By all means have a go at updating the pages tho

if i felt more comfortable with the details, I'd feel confident editing. But I'm still trying to keep my head above water with all of this.
#
skippy
I'd like a "Hello World" example for each thing.
#
tantek
skippy, your observations are accurate, and may reflect the current state of how some post types are more challenging than others.
#
tantek
and that's a reasonable request
#
tantek
the /repost type has some particularly interesting UI / presentation challenges that have not been fully worked out
