[snarfed] I am doing my part now just trying to help with onboarding documentation. A good user study is also hopefully a good recruitment tool when done with open data
#
tantek
jgmac1106++ agreed with those priorities

let me see what I can do for Wordpress. Its hard. I have come to identify the three things on indieweb.org as “values” that the “principles” are based on. It takes a long time to get to somebody through “owning” you data before you can begin indieweb conversations

was a question about indieweb being small in chat. Here was my responses: jgmac1106: this is what is quite different in the education blogging circles. As indieweb has grown over the last 12 years so have educational bloggers. Might be one of the few corners of the web still functioing in a blogosphere. Many are aware of the #indieweb stuff but don’t know how it works or tried way to early before WordPress plug-ins were ma
#
jgmac1106
[1:47pm] jgmac1106: There is also a built in commuity that share core values, andits the community I know
#
jgmac1106
[1:48pm] jgmac1106: If only a small circle in the dev community are talking indieweb and mircoformats then the answer is simple, talk to other communities outside of dev circles
#
jgmac1106
[1:49pm] jgmac1106: the conversartion is hard, however. We first need to focus on writing documentation not for devs, that’s my starting point. What is the experience of the community I want to bring to indieweb, how do they inderstand indieweb, what tools do they use and understand, where do they have problems?
#
jgmac1106
[1:49pm] jgmac1106: From this insight we can write better dcoumenation folks can then fork for different communities
#
tantek
agreed
#
tantek
jgmac1106: in time with better tools, hopefully fewer people (users!) have to worry about or even know about microformats or webmention etc.
#
tantek
and instead are happy about their personal site supporting cross-site commenting and other interactions
#
tantek
how it works under the hood (microformats, webmention) should not matter to users, that's plumbing
#
jgmac1106
at the same time hopefully more people are learning what microfromats are to help build tools that will emerge in time, but I agree. Turn on the faucet without looking under sink
#
tantek
these are devs --> "more people are learning what microfromats are to help build tools that will emerge in time"
#
tantek
"build" implies dev
#
tantek
so that's on topic for the dev channel
#
jgmac1106
meant in the onboarding of new “builders” when you think about different open source roles the evangelizing and recruitment for diffewrent audiences
#
jgmac1106
so as more and more people start to use tools wiothout knowing about the plumbing you are also attracting more and more people who firt want to learn about plumbing and edventually those who can build a better valve to let connections flow
#
jgmac1106
wow are we beating this metaphor to death

People don't want to know about plumbing until their toilet backs up. Which is a Cambridge Analytica metaphor

Aaronpk WDYT of having one of the keynotes be “Reading & Responding on The IndieWeb” co-presented by you and cleverdevil?

I think your two read/respond workflows with your sites / apps are one of the most awesome things to show from the past year

I’m partial to the Ace myself
#
[tantek]
Breakfast not included but there’s so much good food in the surrounding area!
#
GWG
[tantek]: More expensive though.
#
GWG
Hmm...should I take the 2:20 arriving at 5:50PM or the 6:10PM arriving at 9:40PM
#
GWG
The latter one is less expensive.
#
GWG
If I take the 6:10PM, I can spend more time in Seattle, I suppose.
#
GWG
And still get up with for the Summit
