For those of you that have been asking, #Indiepaper for iOS is on the way, thanks to @EddieHinkle. Soon, you’ll be able to save content for later using #Micropub natively on iOS. We are just waiting on Apple! #IndieWeb

@mapkyca and @benwerd had a wonderful conversation about Known on Virtual Homebrew Website Club-Europe today and how with a few tweaks it will be the perfect engine to drive all the posting from micropub clients to our sites. (http://quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/s/y75jS)

.@readywriting thanks for the mention in @ProfHacker. I’ve only just seen it thanks to an old Web ~0.4 technology called Refback. There's a great blogging renaissance, some of which is being powered by the #DoOO and the #IndieWeb movements. I've somewhat compensated for not being able to attend this weekend's @indiewebcamp Berlin, which is sad, by releasing the first new version of my Webmention endpoint in half a year: 0.12.6! Lots of upgrades to the code behind the scenes + a bug fix: https://webmention.herokuapp.com/

Not sure if this is the proper channel, but is there a specific reason why IndieAuth doesn't see my Mastodon instance as a supported authentication provider? My Mastodon instance is upgraded to 2.6.1 and supports rel=me now. I've closed the loop with my website on my Mastodon profile (https://me.frankmeeuwsen.xyz/@frank) and a link back to my Mastodon profile, both with rel=me in the a href. What am I doing wrong?

perhaps /annotations needs to be rewritten explaining that it's basically a fancy way of saying /responses. cc [chrisaldrich]

[chrisaldrich]
And highlights are a version of quote really. Thanks for the feedback Tantek!
#
[chrisaldrich]
I do like the idea of having slightly different representations for them on my site however...
#
[tantek]
Then call it a highlight!
#
[tantek]
That's a specific thing. But "annotation" means any comment, tag, like, etc.
#
[tantek]
any /response effectively
#
[tantek]
it's literally a fancier word than necessary to make the point
#
[chrisaldrich]
An annotation seems to be a response meant for the poster of the annotation more than a response to the original content typically...
#
[tantek]
(a "highlight" could for example be a specific /response that could include for example a highlight style (underline, squiggly etc.) and color (yellow, orange, pink etc.) )
#
[tantek]
I disagree about that "meant for" - evidence: all the annotation "systems" that actively *show* all the annotations that people send to the original content
#
[tantek]
that "meant for poster more than the author" should be done by making it a private post
#
[tantek]
and then don't bother sending a webmention
#
[tantek]
that has nothing to do with "annotation"
#
[chrisaldrich]
Highlights and annotations were traditionally meant for their writer than the creator since they were hidden in one copy. It's only in modern connected contexts that they've begin to take on broader significance.
#
[tantek]
"traditionally"? is that an appeal to paper argument?
#
[tantek]
yes in the context of the web, certainly the indieweb, "annotations" are meant to be received and displayed by the original post
#
[tantek]
so I'm not sure what the point is appealing to "traditionally". and as I said, if you want that use-case, make it a private /response post.

#
[kevinmarks]
That is rather ignoring the talmudic tradition
#
[chrisaldrich]
There's a lot of gradation here, but I'd love to see another online talmud! https://www.sefaria.org/texts/Talmud
#
[chrisaldrich]
There is also a segment of annotators who want to have semi-private annotations (think about a particular teacher having a classroom of shared annotators), but we're still a bit away from that type of functionality...
#
[chrisaldrich]
In any case, there's more semantic subtlety here than my broken use of likes/favorites on Twitter as bookmarks. 😉
#
[chrisaldrich]
I'll try to do some additional notes on those pages shortly as well as adding some of the UI functionality that Hypothes.is has for private/public/group annotations which will help to differentiate.

"semi-private" posts are also a thing.
#
[tantek]
what is audience
#
Loqi
audience is an experimental property of a post that indicates the intended recipients (readers) of the post https://indieweb.org/audience
#
[jgmac1106]
[tantek] I will be at credcon
#
[tantek]
again, none of this is specific / special to "annotations"
#
[tantek]
that's a huge misconception. annotations are not special.
#
[tantek]
jgmac1106++ awesome!!
#
Loqi
jgmac1106 has 30 karma in this channel over the last year (69 in all channels)
#
[tantek]
"annotations" are only "special" if you're selling an "annotation" "product" 😛
#
[jgmac1106]
Annotations are special if you are teaching people to read, marking up a source is a form of external storage
#
[jgmac1106]
But yes an annotation should live on source being marked up more than. On site of person marking up... Unless source and annotation on your site
