2018-11-7 bugs me. Should that be 2018-11-07?
#
[tantek]
Shouldn't that be that is
#
[tantek]
Sknebel we did do a microformats issues session, led by Charlie
#
[tantek]
And that wiki edit has nothing to do with microformats, it's to do with a valid ISO Date, which tons of things depend on, from HTML5 to iCal
#
[tantek]
2018-11-07 is not "date markup" - it's just a text date

#
aaronpk
yeah "2018-11-7" isn't really anything I would expect to see ever
#
aaronpk
nor would I expect anything to be able to parse it
#
aaronpk
like even outside of a microformats context

!tell tantek: that was very much announced as a session about a specific problem, not looking at existing old issues and cleaning them up? (e.g. around date parsing). and yes, it has to do with marking it up since I'm talking about parser output - you might be of the option that this case shouldn't be handled, but that doesn't make it not an issue of marking things up
#
Loqi
Ok, I'll tell them that when I see them next
#
sknebel
(and microformats already accept values that aren't valid ISO, as pointed out above already)
#
sknebel
anyways, more interested in a solution (even if that is "people got to write proper ISO dates") than semantic quibbling
#
GWG
sknebel, I would agree with you. The Microformats list of issues doesn't get worked on often enough.
#
sknebel
luckily the date stuff doesn't hurt the most common cases (when you generate the HTML from datetime data, it's easiest to include a full ISO string and that just works), but with manual editing it comes up a lot and the various issues around it have been floating around a relatively long time

another thing we can do is make the Organizers meetup in to an actual h-event and have that photo show up too

any clever ideas how to display virtual events?
#
sknebel
and/or how to recognize them?
#
sknebel
until now they had a "p-location" of "virtual" or so
#
gRegorLove
p-category=virtual?
#
sknebel
or a mediawiki category, good point
#
sknebel
e.g. they all are supposed to have Category:Meetups, maybe Category:Meetups/Virtual
#
gRegorLove
apparently I forgot location altogether on this one virtual, indie event, heh https://gregorlove.com/2018/10/virtual-homebrew-website-club/
#
gRegorLove
yeah, that sounds good too
#
sknebel
and then just show "virtual" where the location shorthand is needed (e.g. in the list on the front page, or on /Events)
#
gRegorLove
I just realized how appropriate that retro-HWC graphic is for the virtual events :)
#
aaronpk
I still think "Online" is a better word to use for the location, since "Online" is a noun whereas "Virtual" is an adjective
#
gRegorLove
I like that. Feels more approachable, too.
#
sknebel
alternatively some way to provide a short name, I kind of liked the Virtual EU / Virtual Americas labels
#
sebsel
is 'online' really a noun? 'the online'? sounds weird to me.
#
sebsel
But I agree that it's better as location
#
sknebel
not sure if location is the right term
#
sknebel
it's a shorthand, which typically is the location because that's the most useful to distinguish
#
Zegnat
“the virtual reality” (add footnote: “no, not second life”)
#
aaronpk
you're right, online is not a noun, so I dont know why "online" sounds right as a location but "virtual" does not
#
aaronpk
in any case, a MW category might be the better way to go here anyway
#
Zegnat
likes the category idea
#
Zegnat
Also because you get nice overview pages when you need them, curtesy of mediawiki
#
sknebel
the category doesn't solve the display problem
#
sknebel
it solves the "how does the automation know not to care about the location"
#

Just generated this week's newsletter! You still have a few minutes to make changes, and I'll re-generate it 10 minutes before it gets sent out at 3pm Pacific time. https://indieweb.org/this-week/2018-11-09.html
#
sknebel
but there still needs to be something in the list: "Indieweb meetups 2018-11-14: San Francisco, Portland, <...> <--somethign there
#
aaronpk
"online" still feels the best to me for that
#
gRegorLove

#
sknebel

#
aaronpk
ohh it was technically the previous week
#
aaronpk
oh well
#
sknebel
gRegorLove: not the first day, and haven't seen any from the second
#
sknebel
hm, don't like online for some reason, but will go with it for now, since no clear better idea
#
sknebel
(p-nickname on an event to customize it? in a way that's what I want, but nickname is the wrong label too :D)
#
aaronpk
there's always "The Internet"
#
gRegorLove
On the internets
#
sknebel
again, doesn't have to be a location
#
sknebel
ah, ok, before I think it was p-locality. that seemed really wrong. p-location:"online" might be acceptable
#
sknebel
but also doesn't allow for the customization in the way the US one had
