Serious question, what's the best way to catch up on weeks of logs? Start and page forward, or backward?
[cleverdevil] and [eddie] joined the channel
#
[eddie]
I always try to start at the beginning
#
[eddie]
My mind needs things in chronological order or else I expend too much brain power trying to go backwards
#
jacky
^ yeah
#
jacky
esp when people make replies to things - top down == best way
#
[tantek]
makes sense
#
gRegorLove
Beyond a day or two, I usually declare Backlog Zero :)
#
tantek
I don't really feel like I can do that.
#
tantek
I need to catch up on logs from when I was too busy in-person, and then I need to start triaging microformats2 parsing issues - I think that's the area I can help unbottleneck the most right now
#
tantek
(open to other suggestions)
#
gRegorLove
sounds good, tantek. I'm happy to help with any mf2 stuff too.

aaronpk Is it possible that the chat logs when you click on a channel take you to the bottom of the current day, rather than the top? I'm wondering how many people go to the chat logs want to go to the most recent time if first arriving on a channel
#
[eddie]
where as the "prev/next" buttons likely should bring someone to the beginning of the day
#
sknebel
[eddie]: it does that for me?
#
[eddie]
Really? You see the bottom of the chat, not the top?
#
[eddie]
Strange... maybe it's just iOS?
#
sknebel
yeah, it sends me to #bottom fragment, which is unsurprisingly at the bottom
#
[eddie]
hmm you're right, there is a #bottom fragment at the end of that url
#
[eddie]
strange, it's broken on iOS
#
[tantek]
This is a great meta-post about convenience which the author then subsequently cited as a reason to go back to their own blog: http://www.hollidazed.co.uk/2017/11/19/convenience-isnt-digital/
#
[tantek]
Not sure where to put it - maybe UX?
#
[tantek]
what is UX
#
Loqi
User experience, often abbreviated as UX, refers to the total experience a user has with a tool, or even an entire company, across all methods of communication and interaction with that tool, including both direct interactions using a tool UI and indirect interactions via other tools such as email, SMS, phone calls, in-person human representatives of the tool or company, etc https://indieweb.org/ux

Hmmm, because the channel urls like https://chat.indieweb.org/meta/ forward to the current day url Aperture won't subscribe to the current url, it wants to subscribe to the redirected url which will result in only following the day
#
[eddie]
That's too bad. I thought it might be interesting to follow the chat logs within my Microsub reader as a test
#
sknebel
that seems like a bug in aperture/watchtower
#
sknebel
worth filing a bug there
#
[tantek]
is it a 301 or 307?
#
[eddie]
I wasn't sure if https://chat.indieweb.org/meta/ was doing a perminent or temporary redirect and if that had any effect on it
#
sknebel
it correctly does 301
#
sknebel
eh, sorry
#
sknebel
(mistyped)
#
sknebel
301 would be wrong :D
#
[tantek]
do we need a feed discovery spec to make this explicit?
#
[tantek]
about which URL to actually subscribe to
#
[tantek]
oh wait we have one
#
[tantek]
WebSub 😛
#
sknebel
[eddie]: you filing the bug?
#
[eddie]
Yeah, I will
#
[tantek]
there should already be a bug requesting Aperture to support WebSub - perhaps thumb that up?
#
[tantek]
and cross-link with this 301/302 bug?
#
Loqi
[EdwardHinkle] #63 Can't subscribe to feed urls that redirect
#
[eddie]
WebSub doesn't deal with redirects does it?
#
aaronpk
aperture doesn't do websub yet so unrelated :P
#
[tantek]
but if it did do websub it would have to obey those 301/302 semantics, just sayin' 🙂
