Zegnat I can see the use for quiet rooms at large conferences, or conferences that have bursts of activity (speakers, workshops, ...) and can offer a down-time in between for those who do not want to mingle. I am not sure the much more community focusses indieweb meetups are at a size where that makes sense? But I can totally see a buddy system work, specifically because we are so community focussed.
