what is notification clustering?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "notification clustering" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "notification clustering is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
[tantek]
clearly
#
aaronpk
what are notifications
#
Loqi
notifications in the context of the IndieWeb refer to all forms and ways that an independent web site can receive a message indicating something of interest (server notifications), and potentially relay that information (preferably in realtime) to one or more devices used by the owner of that site (client notifications) https://indieweb.org/notifications

#
[tantek]
gRegorlove, [eddie] do we need a Category:buzzword for blockchain and similar things that are hyped in the press far more than they are actually useful?
#
[tantek]
wondering if that could similarly be used to trigger Loqi in various channels to ask people to focus on practical things, and perhaps take chat about buzzwords to the informal chat channel
#
gRegorLove
Eh, not sure
#
Loqi
gRegorLove: [eddie] left you a message 3 hours, 21 minutes ago: Turns out, Loqi didn't think blockchain was jargon 🙂
#
gRegorLove
I'd be find with categorizing it as jargon and prompting for dev. I don't think there's been a problem of dev being overrun with buzzword conversations
[eddie] joined the channel
#
[eddie]
Yeah, I think for now just having it as jargon is good. (Which I already did)
#
[eddie]
If we find an influx of a large number of buzzword type things interfering with conversations then that could be reconsidered
#
[eddie]
But it doesn’t seem like an active problem currently
#
[tantek]
ok will start collecting buzzwords for now
[snarfed] joined the channel
#
[tantek]
per Kevinmarks's point about being overrun here in meta with mentions, I wonder if that's a sign we need to pick a threshold at which to consider creating a new channel for "search mentions" from Twitter, or WebSub etc.
#
[tantek]
as IndieWeb development continues to grow in popularity, it's inevitable that more and more developers will talk about all the building blocks and such
#
[tantek]
(we previously considered and rejected a separate channel for Twitter mentions because there weren't enough to be annoying)

petermolnar if something comes up in indieweb chat as an answer to something indieweb related (as opposed to a random chat that should go in informal chat instead), that's a clue that it may merit a page that defines how it relates to the indieweb
#
petermolnar
but... WAN is - or supposed to be - a _really_ well known abbreviation, any search on it will bring you the correct definition
#
petermolnar
it's even present on home routers
#
petermolnar
and in home router manuals
#
petermolnar
so why add it to the wiki?

petermolnar
jargon or not, there are technical terms that should be fine to use
