↩️ Where should I start with known? I’m leaving Saturday so short on time. We’re teaching beginners web. HTML, CSS, building a personal site. Bit of git too. But mainly how to start their own indieweb site using @thecarpentries hands on pedagogy.

↩️ I ❤️ hands-on method! At some IndieWeb events (when also wanting to intro people to git/GitHub) I’ve helped clone https://github.com/indieweb/blank-gh-site and get a GH hosted page setup. Then it is up to you how much HTML/CSS to teach. People love tweaking, pushing, and seeing their sites update!

Alan Jacobs is right that any revitalized indieweb blogosphere depends not just upon writers of blogs but readers, who “have all been trained by social media to skim the most recent things and then go on to something else”. https://blog.ayjay.org/on-blogging/

That's a great post by Alan Jacobs... I like that idea of thinking how to help readers understand the value that is buried away in many blogs, often in posts from months or years ago.

Why I post popular tags in my footer. Helps discovery. I think you are on to something with emoji tagging
#
[jgmac1106]
There are probably design things folks can do as well... Put a sidebar of popular, fav post, web rings, blog rolls, etc
#
[manton]
"On this day" is another nice random discovery tool, but yeah, making it easier to have a personal "favorites" list from the archive might be what I want.
#

In content silos producers will always be a tiny fraction of consumers
#
aaronpk
I don't necessarily think people inherently devalue not current stuff. I think it has more to do with the silos pushing a stream of content making it feel like it's something you can "turn on" like a TV when you want it. There are still plenty of ways people find old posts, it's just that in those cases they're explicitly seeking out some information
#
[jgmac1106]
Good point

A random post button would be a neat feature... Most of this isn't that #indieweb-meta though

what is a pronoun
