I worked for many years on Orkut/Google Buzz/Google+ and always tried (and failed) to get the company to see that the way to beat FB and make a better world at the same time was through an open federated social network. @dealmeida ↩️ Good point. I said owning your blog 'cause the IndieWeb advocates for having your own domain/blog as a way of owning your data. Transparently switching is still a dream, even for modern platforms like Mastodon (where it's not trivial or seamless). Also, I run my own SMTP server! (twitter.com/_/status/1270549136752832512)
